Hi Flock 2018 attendees!
For the third year, I'd like to announce the International Candy Swap at Flock 2018; if you are interested in participating, please email me (jwf@fedoraproject.org) with your name, your FAS account, what country you will bring candies from, and any food allergies you have.
For the past two Flocks, we have a tradition of bringing and exchanging candies from around the world with other Fedora community members. Learn something about your fellow community members and indulge in some yummy sweets at the same time! One evening of the conference, we will gather for about an hour, while everyone lays out what they brought and explain what we brought before trying them.
In the past, we've had German chocolates, American salt water taffy, French fruit candies, Czech/European coconut Fidorkas, homemade Indian sweets, Swedish sour candies, and Australian chocolate koala bears. I can't wait to see what we will gather this year!
A list of participants and countries will be maintained here, leading up to Flock:
https://infinote.fedoraproject.org/cgit/infinote/tree/candy-swaps/flock-2018...
If you want to participate, start looking for any unique candies you can pack with you on your journey now. :-) Please email me at jwf@fedoraproject.org with your name, FAS username, what country you will bring sweets from, and any food allergies.
Looking forward to seeing you in Dresden!
Non-American Fedorans!
Are there American candy treats that you would like to try? (Or non-candy food items)
The internet says that folks in the UK do not have easy (or cheap access to items like):
* Hershey candy bars (though, why you'd want inferior US chocolate is beyond me... https://www.hersheys.com/en_us/products.html?filters=hersheysfranchise-produ...)
* Reese's cups/candy bars (https://www.hersheys.com/reeses/en_us/home.html) * Butterfinger candy bars (https://www.butterfinger.com/) * Baby Ruth candy bars (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Baby_Ruth) * Mike & Ike (https://www.mikeandike.com/) * Swedish Fish (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Swedish_Fish) * Sour Patch Kids (http://www.sourpatch.com/) * Twizzlers/Red Vines (https://www.hersheys.com/twizzlers/en_us/home.html) * Jolly Ranchers (https://www.hersheys.com/jolly-rancher/en_us/home.html) * Wonka candy (https://www.candyfavorites.com/candy-brands/willy-wonka-candies) * Warheads (https://warheads.com/) * M&M variants (http://www.mms.com/#product) * Oreo variants (http://www.snackworks.com/search/product-results?searchText=Oreo) * Hostess snack cakes (Twinkies, Ho Hos, Ding Dongs: http://hostesscakes.com/products) * Cinnamon candy (Red Hots: http://www.ferrarausa.com/brands/red-hots/ Atomic Fireballs: http://www.atomicfireball.com/) * Soda flavored candy (Root Beer, Dr Pepper, etc) * US Starbursts (apparently they're different) * Pop Tart variants (https://www.poptarts.com/en_US/home.html) * Moon Pies (https://moonpie.com/)
If something on that list sounds good to you (or anything that you can find via search engine), please let me know, as I will happily fill requests.

Are you sure you need an information about food allergies people have? How useful is this information for you and/or for other people, like me? I asked two years ago whether the Flock attendees would like to disclose the information about their food allergies or not and I got one answer "yes" and one "no".
On the other hand, I think it may be useful if people listed the possible allergens contained in their candies. But, on the other hand, again I don't know how useful is this information and whether people can list the allergens in a reliable way.
Regards,
Rafal

I ask about food allergies to help me keep track of anything that may come up. I figured it is more likely for people to know now what their food allergies than what candies they will bring. I figure it is better to ask and know in advance than to have an accidental surprise reaction because of irresistible sweets. :-)
I haven't had anyone note an allergy before, but I'd rather ask the question than leave it unasked. If there are any allergies noted, I will send a group email to anyone who confirmed their participation with me closer to Flock.
Hi Flockers! Don't forget! A special assortment of sweets spanning three continents will soon be available to taste in less than a week's time. See who is participating and where from here:
https://infinote.fedoraproject.org/cgit/infinote/tree/candy-swaps/flock-2018...
To participate, please email me at jwf@fedoraproject.org with name, FAS account, what country you will bring candies from, and any food allergies. If your name is not on the list, then I do not know you are bringing anything. :-)
Anyone who RSVPs and brings candies will have first dibs to try out sweets first. Once everyone who has brought something to share has had a chance to go around, the table is open for all Flockers.
Looking forward to seeing you all (and your candies) soon!
