Thanks for the few of you who have already updated your emails. So,
right now there are 18 respondents scattered wildly across the
available times. Right now, I'm using the following algorithm to sort
people into groups: Put them in a group leaving at the earliest
timeslot on each day that they said they could attend.
The reasoning here is to maximize the amount of time that a group
could
spend on the trip. Right now, this looks like:
== Tues. 9am ==
Eligible Drivers: 4
Passengers: 4
---------------------
Total Participants: 8
Number of vehicles: 2@ ~$76
Price per-person: ~$19
== Tues. noon ==
Eligible Drivers: 2
Passengers: 1 ("maybe")
---------------------
Total participants: 2-3
Number of vehicles: 1@ ~$76
Price per-person: ~$25-$38
== Tues. 3pm ==
Eligible Drivers: 1
Passengers: 1
---------------------
Total participants: 2
Number of vehicles: 1@ ~$76
Price per-person: ~$38
== Sun. 9am ==
Eligible Drivers: 1 + 1 ("maybe")
Passengers: 2
---------------------
Total participants: 2-3
Number of vehicles: 1@ ~$76
Price per-person: ~$25-$38
I didn't book anyone for the later Sunday slots because aside from
myself, everyone who booked any of them booked all of them.
As of the above, I will be the driver for the Tues. noon trip.
I'm attaching a graphic showing the data from which I derived these
values.
Key:
D = eligible driver, confirmed
d = eligible driver, maybe
P = passenger, confirmed
p = passenger, maybe
Hmm, just looked at this again and realized I didn't actually follow my
algorithm strictly for the Tues. 3pm set. There's one passenger that
can only go if we leave at that time, and so I picked the first
available driver that was not already accounted for in one of the other
groups, but that may not have been fair to them (I don't know who it is
yet, because they have not provided their email).
If this driver strongly prefers to take the Sunday 9am trip instead,
then I'm afraid this passenger may be out of luck, unless one of the
other eligible drivers currently booked in another group voluntarily
changes.
Of course, none of this is set in stone. It's just a first pass at
trying to coordinate this.
