Name : globus-gss-assist
Product : Fedora EPEL 5
Version : 8.1
Release : 2.el5
URL : http://www.globus.org/
Summary : Globus Toolkit - GSSAPI Assist library
Description :
The Globus Toolkit is an open source software toolkit used for building Grid
systems and applications. It is being developed by the Globus Alliance and
many others all over the world. A growing number of projects and companies are
using the Globus Toolkit to unlock the potential of grids for their cause.
The globus-gss-assist package contains:
GSSAPI Assist library
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Update Information:
Update to Globus Toolkit 5.2
Many of the changes implemented by upstream in this release, such as the removal of the flavour tags in the library names and the support for standard installation paths, were already present in the Fedora packages of earlier releases using patches. This update is backwards compatible and does not introduce any soname bumps.
The most important change is the handling of threads. In earlier releases the threading model was chosen at compilation time, and the model used by the libraries in Fedora and EPEL was using pthreads. In this release the threading model is instead chosen at runime, either by using API calls or by setting environment variables. The default model in the new release is the forking model, but also the pthread model is available.
In order to preserve the behaviour of applications linked to previous versions, versioned symbols have been introduced so that the new libraries will switch to the pthread threading model automatically when used by applications that were linked to earlier versions.
Upstream's release notes are available here:
http://www.globus.org/toolkit/docs/5.2/5.2.0/rn/
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
This update can be installed with the "yum" update programs. Use
su -c 'yum update globus-gss-assist' at the command line.
