--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Name : root
Product : Fedora EPEL 5
Version : 5.28.00
Release : 1.el5.1
URL : http://root.cern.ch/
Summary : Numerical data analysis framework
Description :
The ROOT system provides a set of object oriented frameworks with all
the functionality needed to handle and analyze large amounts of data
in a very efficient way. Having the data defined as a set of objects,
specialized storage methods are used to get direct access to the
separate attributes of the selected objects, without having to touch
the bulk of the data. Included are histogramming methods in 1, 2 and 3
dimensions, curve fitting, function evaluation, minimization, graphics
and visualization classes to allow the easy setup of an analysis
system that can query and process the data interactively or in batch
mode.
Thanks to the built in CINT C++ interpreter the command language, the
scripting, or macro, language and the programming language are all
C++. The interpreter allows for fast prototyping of the macros since
it removes the time consuming compile/link cycle. It also provides a
good environment to learn C++. If more performance is needed the
interactively developed macros can be compiled using a C++ compiler.
The system has been designed in such a way that it can query its
databases in parallel on MPP machines or on clusters of workstations
or high-end PCs. ROOT is an open system that can be dynamically
extended by linking external libraries. This makes ROOT a premier
platform on which to build data acquisition, simulation and data
analysis systems.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Name : libzdb
Product : Fedora EPEL 5
Version : 2.7
Release : 1.el5
URL : http://www.tildeslash.com/libzdb/
Summary : Small, fast, and easy to use database API
Description :
The Zild C Database Library implements a small, fast, and easy to use database
API with thread-safe connection pooling. The library can connect transparently
to multiple database systems, has zero configuration and connections are
specified via a standard URL scheme.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Update Information:
This is a feature and bug fix release which has been tested on the following platforms:
* Linux 2.6 (x86 and x64)
* Mac OS X Snow Leopard (Darwin 10.6.x i386/x86_64)
* Mac OS X Leopard (Darwin 10.5.x ppc)
* FreeBSD 6.x, 7.x and 8.x (x86 and x64)
* Solaris 10 and Solaris Express (sparc and x86)
* OpenBSD 4.x (x86 and x64)
Release notes:
--------------
This release brings tentative Oracle support to libzdb thanks to Volodymyr Tarasenko. If you already have Oracle installed on your system, then simply running configure should pick it up. Otherwise if you want to build libzdb with Oracle support, but don't have Oracle installed (like me) it is a bit more work. Here's what I did; download Instant Client (basic and sdk) from http://www.oracle.com/ Create a oci directory someplace and copy header files and libs into this directory. Then use this configure statement; ./configure --with-oci-include=/<path>/oci/include --with-oci-lib=/<path>/oci/lib
The Oracle implementation is not quite yet production ready which emerge from the change log below, though for most practical purposes it should work - according to Volodymyr. If you want to help out testing and improving it, please do.
The SQLite implementation has been further improved by adding a configure option to make SQLite release unused memory. This is very useful as SQLite does not care so much about releasing memory and its memory usage can grow considerably if left unchecked.
Changes in this release:
------------------------
* Added tentative support for Oracle. Thanks to Volodymyr
Tarasenko, and Sergey Pavlov for implementing this.
This implementation does not support BLOB, though CLOB
is supported. It will also not run all zdb unit tests,
but should be useful for most purposes. It is released
with the hope that others may still find it useful and
help iron out any remaining issues.
* Added new convenience zdb.h meta include file which
can be used to include all required API interfaces
* Internal optimizing changes and improvements - we simply
adore refactoring
* SQLite: Clear connection on rollback to prevent SQLite
from issue an SQLITE_BUSY error if there are pending
selects in progress.
* SQLite: added a "heap_limit" URL property. Makes SQLite
auto-release unused memory if memory usage goes above
the specified limit [KB]. Require that SQLite is
compiled with the SQLITE_ENABLE_MEMORY_MANAGEMENT option
to take effect.
Bug fixes:
* SQLite: Ensure that the database file is specified in
connection URL. Thanks to Bogdan Nicula.
* PostgreSQL: Implemented Connection_setQueryTimeout()
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
This update can be installed with the "yum" update programs. Use
su -c 'yum update libzdb' at the command line.

Product : Fedora EPEL 5
Version : 1.5
Release : 0.el5
URL : http://www.cipherdyne.org/fwsnort/
Summary : Translates Snort rules into equivalent iptables rules
Description :
fwsnort translates Snort rules into equivalent iptables rules and generates
a Bourne shell script that implements the resulting iptables commands.
In addition, fwsnort (optionally) uses the IPTables::Parse module to parse the
iptables ruleset on the machine to determine which Snort rules are applicable
to the specific iptables policy.
fwsnort is able to translate approximately 60% of all rules from the
Snort-2.3.3 IDS into equivalent iptables rules.

Fedora EPEL Update Notification
FEDORA-EPEL-2011-0072
2011-01-15 19:23:55
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Name : perl-Getopt-GUI-Long
Product : Fedora EPEL 5
Version : 0.91
Release : 5.el5
URL : http://search.cpan.org/dist/Getopt-GUI-Long/
Summary : A wrapper around Getopt::Long to provide a GUI to applications
Description :
This module is a wrapper around Getopt::Long that extends the value of
the original Getopt::Long module to:
1) add a simple graphical user interface option screen if no arguments
are passed to the program. Thus, the arguments to actually use are
built based on the results of the user interface. If arguments were
passed to the program, the user interface is not shown and the
program executes as it normally would and acts just as if
Getopt::Long::GetOptions had been called instead. This requires
the QWizard and Gtk2 or Tk interfaces to be installed too.
2) provide an auto-help mechanism such that -h and --help are
handled automatically. In fact, calling your program with -h
will default to showing the user a list of short-style arguments
when one exists for the option. Similarly --help will show the
user a list of long-style when possible. --help-full will list
all potential arguments for an option (short and long both).
It's designed to make the creation of graphical shells trivial
without the programmer having to think about it much as well as
providing automatic good-looking usage output without the
programmer needing to write usage() functions.

Update Information:
A portable Wizard-screen based form input system

This update can be installed with the "yum" update programs. Use
su -c 'yum update perl-Getopt-GUI-Long' at the command line.

Fedora EPEL Update Notification
FEDORA-EPEL-2011-0063
2011-01-14 16:34:20
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Name : perl-QWizard
Product : Fedora EPEL 5
Version : 3.15
Release : 7.el5
URL : http://search.cpan.org/dist/QWizard/
Summary : A very portable graphical question and answer wizard system
Description :
The QWizard module allows script authors to concentrate on the
content of the forms they want their users to fill in without
worrying about the display. It allows "Question Wizard" like
interfaces to be very easily created and the results of the input
easily acted upon. Scripts written which are entirely based on
QWizard inputs are able to be run from the command line which will
show a Gtk2, Tk window or as a ReadLine interactive session or as a
CGI script without modification. Script writers do not need to know
which interface is being used to display the resulting form(s) as it
should be transparent to the script itself.
Other wizard interfaces exist for perl, but this one strives very
hard to be both extensible and easy to code with requiring as little
work by script authors as possible. It is also one of the only ones
that supports both web environments and windowing environments
without code modification required by the script author.
