Actually, I did run into a case of multiple new partitions all having the same size, and some difficulties with LVM groups (maybe more to do with transparency than capabilies) but that's another story.
Chris: I disagree. Good software should give good error messages, and "I need an EFI partition on a GPT-formatted disk" is not a good description of why a legacy bootloader can't be used.
