**Discussed during the [2017 Diversity
FAD](https://fedoraproject.org/wiki/FAD_Diversity_2017).**
The end result of a lot of our discussion on this is that before we make decisions on
this, we want to research and better understand how other communities handle these kinds
of things so we can learn from what is successful in other communities or learn what to
avoid. I'll break this comment into some general resources we noted and then our
discussion points for how we wanted to approach this.
## Resources

* [Community Participation
Guidelines](https://www.mozilla.org/en-US/about/governance/policies/parti...
* [Workshop for creating a good
CoC](https://mozillascience.github.io/working-open-workshop/code_of_conduct/) (resources,
questions to think on)

CoCs for other FOSS organizations)

## Pathlines for reporting CoC violations
* **What policies other communities implement for their community members**
* Are there things like a "get a grip" clause in other communities'
policies? (example: individuals complaining about default rule in English that there is a
masculine pronoun used)
* **Ideas for communities to research:**
* Mozilla ( @bee2502 )
* SUSE
* Debian
* Apache
* Ubuntu / Canonical ( @jflory7 hoping to talk with @cprofitt )
* LibreOffice (The Document Foundation) ( @jonatoni )
* Arch Linux Women ( @jflory7 talking with @meskarune )
* freenode ( @jflory7 )
* Wikipedia ( @jonatoni )
* KDE ( @jonatoni )
* Python ( @bee2502 )
* GNOME ( @marinaz ? / @bee2502 )
* Systers/ Ada Initiative ( @bee2502 )
* **What actions other communities take with regards to people who cause issues**
* Think about the issue and the problem – forget the person involved
* What you did vs. what you are [video](https://youtu.be/CNKMFduSnFw)
* Aligning it with the project objectives / goals and a code of conduct
* The degree of action taken should mirror the degree of importance to the goals
and objectives of the project
* **What actions do other communities take to motivate / support the person who filed
report**
* Counseling / support network of other contributors?
These are still a lot of raw notes, but this sums up where we left off on this
discussion.
