Hi all,
I got to thinking about how to actually use this list (it has seen
zero real usage since its creation) and here's what I came up with:
what if we directed the trac instance at
https://fedorahosted.org/fedora-badges/ to send emails here everytime
there was a new ticket or an update on an existing ticket?
Currently, I'm the only one that is notified of activity there and
keeping me as a bottleneck there is a bad idea longer-term. On the
other hand, this would generate a lot of traffic here (maybe too much).
I'm leaning towards doing it. Does anyone want to weigh in? Any
objections?
#333: Oh, wait!

When I visit badges.fedoraproject.org, there is no clear information about
the content license, such as, but not limited to, badge designs.
From my POV that means badges are CC BY-SA 3.0 Unported, because of FPCA.
If that being true, I would suggest adding this information to the footer
of the page and also tracking the author of the graphics in YAML and
displaying it on badge details page.

Special Request!
We just launched a new system at https://release-monitoring.org and it's
really neat. You can read more about it here:
https://lists.fedoraproject.org/pipermail/devel-
announce/2015-February/001541.html
There is one labor-intensive part of the process: people login to https
://release-monitoring.org and they find "projects" there that do not
having a mapping to a Fedora "package". For instance, someone has to go
find that the project "nethack" is called "nethack" in Fedora (obvious) or
that the project "PyJWT" is called "python-jwt" in Fedora (less obvious).
I'd love to award badges to people who are going through and doing all
that hard work on the almost 20,000 packages we have in Fedora.
We have this all looped into fedmsg, so implementation of an auto-awarded
badge will be easy.
For badge art concepts, how about this:
- A satellite dish radiating a signal, perhaps to another world.
- A badger or panda operating a telegraph, perhaps with a satellite dish
radiating a signal in the background.
- Hermes! I.e., a panda with winged sandals. He was the 'messenger',
right? Or maybe just an image of the winged sandals:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Talaria
The idea here is that people are helping Fedora get the latest software
into our queue faster than ever before.. so hence the satellite dish,
hermes, etc.. The telegraph might be cool to continue the kind of retro-
tech thing we have going on in some place (i.e., the model T motorcar
badge).
We can definitely do this one in a series:
- 1 upstream package mapped to Fedora
- 50 upstream packages mapped to Fedora
- 100 upstream packages mapped to Fedora
- 250 upstream packages...
- 1000 ..

Those who are adding AppStream metainfo files in fonts packages. As we
have this work already done for the required fonts packages, I think I
cannot ask for automatic badge award based on git commit message. So, this
need to be manually awarded.
We can also use this badge for future metainfo file contribution in fonts
packages.
On 16th October 2014, on fonts list we received email
https://lists.fedoraproject.org/pipermail/fonts/2014-October/001747.html
which asked to help by adding appdata files in fonts packages. People
maintaining fonts packages then started working on this. Then Richard sent
an email on devel list
https://lists.fedoraproject.org/pipermail/devel/2014-October/203394.html
and created google spreadsheet
https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1o2sPWF7PEe6BKnBeZUI23m51nfFHUMx61IR…
to avoid people working on the same font package. We then collectively
finished this work, announced that in

and its documented in that spreadsheet.

What the badge should be granted for:
We plan to host a Fedora Activity Day(FAD) on 1 Nov 2014. Could we have a
badge for the attendees as a token for their participation?
-> https://fedoraproject.org/wiki/FAD_Pune_Security_1
Badge description (like "You added a co-maintainer to a package. BFF!"):
Ummn -> "FAD Pune, 01 Nov 2014."
Anything else we need to know:
The theme for this FAD is Security. It would be great if the badge design
could show that security aspect somehow.

likely enough people in Fedora who submitted more than just one security

This badges continues existing badge #189 for Release Party Owners. This
time for Fedora 21!
What the badge should be granted for:
FAmSCo want to give all Release Party organizers a release specific badge.
Badge description (like "You added a co-maintainer to a package. BFF!"):
Everyone who organizes a Release Party should get a release specific
badge. Release Parties take place immediately after a new version of
Fedora gets released.
Anything else we need to know:
Although the owners will be known about 1-2 months afte GA release, it
will not be possible to assign the badge automatically, IMHO. Therefore
they have to be assigned manually, following a list FAmSCo will be able to
pass at some point to the Infra team.

What the badge should be granted for:
So here's the idea. The FPL has the FPL blessing, right? But, someone did
something really helpful and awesome for me today, with no expectation of
getting anything in return. This person really made my life easier. And I
really wish I could give him something as a token of my appreciation.
So my thought here - maybe everyone in the Fedora project gets an amount
of cookie badges that they can hand out as thank yous to others in the
project as they're getting things done and helping each other out. You
can't award one to yourself, only others. Maybe you get one cookie for
every 5 badges you have earned, so folks get a number of cookies
proportional to their achievements in the system, and if they run out they
can replenish their cookies by earning more badges.
If a user earns more than one cookie badge, they can stack up the way the
series badges stack. so you could get a 1 cookie badge, 10 cookie badge,
25 cookie badge, 50 cookie badge, and a 100+ cookie badge. Beyond that, I
think maybe you've got enough cookies :)
Badge description (like "You added a co-maintainer to a package. BFF!"):
1 - "You've been given a cookie for helping someone out. Thanks!"
10 - "Ten people think you're great, because they've given you cookies.
Yummy!"
25 - "Mmmmm.... cookies. You've helped out 25 Fedorans! Go you!"
50 - "50 Fedorans have recognized your achievements by giving you
cookies."
100+ - "You have helped so many Fedorans you've got over 100 cookies.
Don't eat them all at once!"
Anything else we need to know:
The dark side has cookies too, but ours are more better.
Each level could feature a different type of cookie - chocolate chip,
oatmeal, snickerdoodle, etc

Badge description: You sent a patch to a Fedora mailing list!
Anything else we need to know: It's considered a rare event in Fedora to
have patches sent to (most) public lists. We usually use bugzilla and
such, and mailing lists are full of people arguing minor details. Today, a
rare event happened and stickster sent a patch to the desktop list. I feel
this rare event should be awarded with a special badge :)

Comment (by till):
There are several other badge ideas about GPG keys (most of them submitted
by me), which all require that the GPG key specified in FAS is available
on keyservers (see ticket:125). There is also a badge for adding ones GPG
key to FAS. One of my ideas was to check whether the key specified in FAS
has the fedorproject uid, which is what is proposed here as well (just
here for keyservers and not for FAS). By changing the scope to FAS for
this ticket, my ticket (ticket:343) is a duplicate of this one.
