/usr/bin/ld: cannot find -lmpfr
by Michael Hennebry
/usr/bin/ld: cannot find -lmpfr
As mentioned in another thread, I am trying to compile gappa 1.4 .
./configure LDFLAGS=-L/usr/lib64 complains
From config.log
configure:4678: checking for mpfr_snprintf in -lmpfr
configure:4703: g++ -o conftest -g -O2 -L/usr/lib64/ conftest.cpp -lmpfr -lgmp
>&5
/usr/bin/ld: cannot find -lmpfr
collect2: error: ld returned 1 exit status
[hennebry@fedora ~]$ ls /usr/lib64/libmpfr*
/usr/lib64/libmpfr.so.6 /usr/lib64/libmpfr.so.6.1.0
[hennebry@fedora ~]$
What is going on?
How do I deal?
configure is written in the obfuscated shell generated by autotools.
Editing that seems unlikely to be successful.

How to install F35
by Michael Hennebry
How does one install F35?
I've got the workstation iso on a DVD.
It runs, but clicking on install seems to have little or no effect.
I certainly do not get any prompts for the next step.
What is the magic formula?
BTW I do not have the wiggle room for dual boot.
I backed up my home directory and edited
my partitions before running the DVD.
Do I need to have an internet connection available to do the install?
The first time I tried this, an "update" or whatever
it was doing took over an hour before I gave up.
I'd prefer a separate update step that I can watch.
The joy of installion is a reason I do it so rarely.

screen lock - ? - not locking
by lejeczek
Hi guys.
I have "Automatic Screen Lock Delay" set to "5 minutes" but
instead of locked screen I get some apps reshuffled between
two monitors.
My setup is laptop (AMD APU) with external monitor which
monitor is set to "Primary".
It's mostly Thunderbird which I keep on laptop-display and
when this non-lock happens I find Thunderbird moved to
"primary" and some Firefox/Chromium windows moved from
Primary to laptop.
Something looks like seriously fcuked up with recent f35, it
was not weird from the start, updates from recent months
introduced this I think.
I say seriously because the fact that "locking" does not
work is serious - Fedora eventually locks the screen but
that is not that first "5 minutes".
It seems that it takes a few - how many I did not time -
tries before it succeeds.
Anybody sees this or similar misbehavior?
many thanks, L.

New Text Editor - A Question.....
by Eddie G. O'Connor Jr.
Just wondering ladies and gentlemen. Is there any way to get the new
text editor to use a "dark" theme? I love its simple interface and the
fact that the text can be BOLDED again! But this bright white?..is
KILLING my eyes! Just wondering is all!
Thanks!

Kernel 5.16.18 refuses to process sound
by Temlakos
Everyone:
Today I recorded a video using Open Broadcast Studio (OBS) and a
Logitech BRIO camera with build-in microphone that has delivered
flawless performance to date.
Imagine my shock and chagrin when I played a video I had just recorded,
only to find that I had picture, but no sound.
I just fell back on Kernel 5.16.17, and it picked up the sound just
fine. Last Known Good and all that.
All that to say this: the kernel has a bug, and killed the handling of
sound from microphones. At least in the current version. The last
version handled it without a hitch and still does.
I have removed that version of the kernel and would like to skip it. Two
questions:
1. How do I set DNFDragora to skip a current version and call me back
when it has a new version of the kernel for me to try out?
2. How do I file a bug against the kernel? I tried accessing a bug
reporting program but don't know where to find it.

setup for M/L (nvidia)
by Neal Becker
Trying to setup for machine learning. Here's what I tried. Actually, we
can just view dnf history. In reverse chronological order:
1. install the nvidia device driver from rpmfusion:
sudo dnf install
61 | install /var/cudnn-local-repo-rhel7-8.3.2.44/libcudn | 2022-03-31
18:38 | Install | 1
60 | install /home/nbecker/Downloads/cudnn-local-repo-rhe | 2022-03-31
18:37 | Install | 1
59 | install cuda | 2022-03-31
15:55 | Install | 60 <
58 | install xorg-x11-drv-nvidia-cuda | 2022-03-31
15:23 | Install | 4 >
57 | -y install --disablerepo=* /tmp/akmods.VU8cZxAa/resu | 2022-03-31
14:57 | Install | 1
56 | install akmod-nvidia | 2022-03-31
14:49 | Install | 62 E<
After installing akmod-nvidia, we need to obtain cuda and cudnn direct from
nvidia. They have setup repos, which after installation
provide:
baseurl=
https://developer.download.nvidia.com/compute/cuda/repos/fedora35/x86_64
and a local repo:
baseurl=file:///var/cudnn-local-repo-rhel7-8.3.2.44
While nvidia provides fedora specific cuda I could only find rhel7 version
of cudnn.
The installations succeed and everything is working. But with these new
repos enabled update is broken:
sudo dnf update
[sudo] password for nbecker:
Last metadata expiration check: 0:45:46 ago on Thu 31 Mar 2022 06:38:21 PM

If I read this correctly nvidia's version (which provides driver 510.47)
obsoletes the one from rpmfusion (which is actually newer?).
The only solution I can think of for now is just disable those 2 nvidia
repos after installation.
Has anyone setup M/L nvidia on fedora and have a better solution?
Thanks,
Neal
