And I've added some commentary to that ticket on how the user account 
list can be disabled and a banner set as an example in the comments. 
gconftool-2 can be used to set and get values for gconf variables on the 
command line. GDM by default will read from the gconf settings folder in 
the gdm user's home directory (/var/lib/gdm/.gconf).
