I tried to reproduce on my machine without any success. If you are able to reproduce, I'd like you to ping me. We should probably add -xv to the /bin/bash line in /etc/sysconfig/network-scripts/ifup and log out and err of the execCmd line to see where exactly ifup fails. Otherwise it's quite difficult to tell what happened due to the lack of error message in the exception.
