That's exactly what I wanted to do. I tried Blender because there
seemed to be more tutorials available for blender than the others....
Another alternative is avidemux3, with the various flavors cli, gtk,
qt4. It is very simple, select a piece of video using marker A and B,
and do things to it. I just tried it on an mp4 and was able to edit it
despite the name.
