You are no doubt reading docs for the pre-NetworkManager universe
and the NetworkManager universe is utterly and totally incompatible
(it wouldn't be shiny if it did anything the same way).
Just glancing at the /usr/sbin/dhclient-script itself, I get
the impression that you should be able to edit the
/etc/sysconfig/network-scripts/ifcfg-p4p1 script and
add a line saying:
SEARCH="mydomain.example.com"
(but I make no guarantees).
It is a good thing you make no guarantees.
Looking at my script for the ethernet connection I see this....
DOMAIN=greshko.com
I then used the NetworkManager GUI to add in
ibm.com and now see this...
DOMAIN="ibm.com greshko.com"
And after restarting the link /etc/resolv.conf contains...
# Generated by NetworkManager
search
ibm.com greshko.com
nameserver 127.0.0.1
