I don't think an index or some kind of link to older articles is counter intuitive. I actually find it quite handy.

I agree.  Sometimes, I haven't had time to read the articles for a while and would like to find out what has been posted in the last couple of weeks.  At least now they have the previous and next links, so I can go to a current article and follow the previous links to get back to where I was.
