I'm experiencing the exact same issue. Anyone know why ?

You could use the "iw" commands:
man iw
which should give you the info you need.
"NAME
iw - show / manipulate wireless devices and their configuration"

has a decent write up if a bit dated. Should get you pointed in the right
direction but everything still looks good on quick review.

Thanks to everybody for the replies. None of these worked, however. The
weird thing was that when I tried the nmcli or tried to turn on
NetworkManager, it dropped me back to the login prompt.
I eventually gave up and reinstalled.
