If you are running RH9, it may be a RH9 question.
However, I think it applies to this list as well.
I, on my home machine do not have this issue, but I can see it would be
nice to have the answer available.
The answer, or at least workaround, seems to be:
lpoptions -d printername
This creates a .lpoptions file in the user's home directory.
It is specifically a CUPS thing, I believe.
