There was a discussion here some time ago about the best settings to
use to prolong the life, and keep it fast. I don't use an SSD drive,
so I'm not a good resource for that. The web will probably turn up
lots of advocacy. There is JFS, XFS, Btrfs as alternatives to ext4. I
don't think Btrfs can be used as /boot yet. I've seen advocacy for each
of JFS and XFS and Btrfs. You will have to search that, and decide
which arguments sway you. There's also the Solaris filesystem, ZFS,
which is purported to be the best thing since sliced bread, but it has
some issues on linux because of licensing. There was a discussion about
this on the list some time ago also.
That was my experience with F24. The netinstall got me Xfce. Well
not really. It got me Cinnamon. There was a bug in the Xfce install
back then. I had to add Xfce and select it on log in.
But I don't remember if I used a supposedly Xfce netinstall or the
base install allowed me to try and select Xfce.
If the install method you use connects to the repositories, then you
will be able to select additional packages, or groups, to install. I
usually just use the bare minimum net install, then install anything I
want from the repositories after I boot to the new system. There used
to be a technique called BFO that would let me do an install without
any media, strictly from the net, but it seems to have fallen into
disrepair. At least, when I tried to install rawhide, it just returned
me to the menu. Too bad, it was really great to just put it in
grub.cfg, boot into it, and do a new install. Maybe the released
versions of Fedora still work with BFO, I haven't tried those.
It might be faster for you to clone your existing Fedora system to the
SSD, and then use the dnf system upgrade to get to F26. Then
everything just happens over the net, except for the local disk
transfers.
