Thanks for the hint.  It doesn't really help, unfortunately.  The machine
in question has only fixed disks, so I don't see a reason to enable
udisksd at all.  I stopped and disabled the service for now.

 
 I wish someone would tell this to the thread I created called vmlinuz: the "sadly no response" is why I created the treads vmlinuz  and one other; it is the realisation that these fine people who are having the  problems might not get any help. I could almost quit, and move over to Ubuntu because of their misunderstanding, which I get angered and frustrated at.
