I do clean up my /var/log/journal/ via following commands (maybe imperfect !):
sudo journalctl --flush --rotate;
sudo rm -rfv /var/log/journal/*/*@*;
sudo journalctl --update-catalog --sync;
journald is pretty good about cleaning up after itself. If you think
it's using too much space, you can adjust the storage config in
/etc/systemd/journald.conf. But in most cases, the defaults are fine.
