I haven't used TBird in years but it does seem nutty. Are you sure it
isn't a config option? Evolution doesn't do this by default (though you
can configure it that way if you want), and I suspect Claws and other
IMAP clients don't either.
Indeed there are configuration options. Under the Accounts--->Account
Name--->Synchronization&Storage. Lots of options there. From not storing any
messages locally to choosing what folder to keep locally. Also many choices for how
many messages and/or age of messages to keep.
