Good idea ...

I'd try both: wayland and xorg, if you have both. Log out of X: here at
the gnome login screen at least I have a few options to login, available
via some gearwheel near where I type in my credentials. The wheel
lets me choose between a Wayland session, Gnome on xorg etc.. I'd
select all of them back to back and see whether one of them works for
sleep ...

On KDE (you have that?) there's hopefully some similar login option.

Good luck!
Wolfgang

I did a cursory google last night for wayland on Plasma... didnt have much luck. I need to discover what part of Gnome borked me over this AM.
