Can you try to mount it for exxample on:
$XDG_RUNTIME_DIR/net/SSHFS (ie: /run/user/YOUR_UNIX_UID/net/SSHFS)
and do not make a symlink ~/SSHFS -> $XDG_RUNTIME_DIR/net/SSHFS
A symlink ~/net -> $XDG_RUNTIME_DIR/net should be harmless.
