Ok so here's another issue I've recently come across, wonder if anyone has info on this: I have a Gateway T6321 laptop and it's running my Fedora 17 just fine, I recently noticed my BIOS for this laptop was OLD...(1998! I think!) and I was wondering how do I go about installing the BIOS update from the Gateway site? It's a zip file but I don't know where to unzip it to!...help!

Is there a particular problem that you're trying to solve by installing a BIOS update for your laptop, or do you wish to accept a risk, as small as might be, of bricking your laptop, that's running Fedora 17 "just fine", for no good reason whatsoever?

It's just that I'm concerned, the BIOS is showing as being from 2008, and I wanted to keep it up to date along with everything else I've updated. there's no real concern, just thought it'd be a good idea to get it as close to the "present" as possible.....is this not a good idea? and what does "brick my computer" mean?
