Latest Kernel Installed but Not on Grub Boot Menu

dnf purportedly installed kernel 7.2.4 this morning, but it does not appear as a choice when rebooting. /boot/grub2/grub.cfg has modification date that corresponds to the time of the update. rpm reports: # rpm -qa | grep 7.2.4 kernel-modules-core-7.2.4-200.fc44.x86_64 kernel-core-7.2.4-200.fc44.x86_64 kernel-modules-7.2.4-200.fc44.x86_64 kernel-modules-extra-7.2.4-200.fc44.x86_64 kernel-tools-libs-7.2.4-200.fc44.x86_64 python3-perf-7.2.4-200.fc44.x86_64 kernel-tools-7.2.4-200.fc44.x86_64 kernel-headers-7.2.4-200.fc44.x86_64 kernel-7.2.4-200.fc44.x86_64 Doing a re-install of the 7.2.4 kernel did not change anything. Lately (i.e. the past 10 days or so) a message appears at the end of dnf updates that may or may not be related. “Warning: A pending offline transaction initiated by the following command will be invalidated: dnf5daemon-server.” When rebooting, the checkbox for "install pending updates" is checked, and it is not cleared on reboot, even though the system does two boots, as if it had installed something. In any case, the previous kernel is the latest available on the boot menu. There is plenty of space available in /boot and /boot/efi: /dev/nvme0n1p5 974M 362M 545M 40% /boot /dev/nvme0n1p1 236M 122M 115M 52% /boot/efi Suggestions? Thanks.

Automatic enabling of wifi interface

On one laptop, the wifi interface does not come up after reboot. It does come up if I run "nmcli c up --ask" from the console. So far as I can tell, all the configuration is correct and matches how other machines, both laptops and desktops, are configured. I'm confused by the necessity to use "--ask" when manually bringing up the interface. The password is in the nmconnection file and permissions on all the files are identical to working machines. And, of course, the same password is used by all other machines which connect to the same network. During boot, the log shows CTRL-EVENT-BEACON-LOSS six times. That error does not appear anywhere else in the log, including when I manually bring the interface up. The laptop is located about one meter from the AP. Assuming beacon loss is a transient error, it ought to be possible to configure things so that the up command is repeated after boot completes. Say, one minute later. But that won't help if NetworkManager still doesn't see or use the password. Therefore, I'm concentrating on why my password isn't being used. S-L-O-W Wifi with Intel Raptor Lake PCH CNVi

At some (recent) point with F44 kernal 7.1.x, my WiFi has become extraordinarily slow. Rsync-based backups (with BackinTime) that used to complete in an hour or two are now taking 8-10 hours. BT mouse woes (again ...)`

A while back I reported on a problem with my Bluetooth mouse timing out and disconnecting after a period of inactivity (when the screen goes to sleep), then often failing to reconnect even when the screen wakes up. At the time the problem appeared to be with an obsolete BT dongle, so I replaced that with a more modern one and all was good. Until now. It's doing it again. I can power-cycle the dongle's port (it's on a USB extender with individual switches) but it's a PITA. I've no idea why this has started happening. I changed the mouse battery just in case, but to no avail. This is F44 fully updated, using KDE/Plasma. Suggestions welcome. poc

gdm fails to start

This occurred on a F44 system. Just did a "dnf update --refresh" after a few weeks. I had some problem with low disk-space. (I romeved old files from /var/spool /var/cache/dnf*. After the upgrade GDM does not start anymore. The only way I can get some sort of session (95%working) is using "dbus-run-session -- gnome-shell --display-server --wayland" from the console. How can this be solved? RClone problems with Google Drive

Until recently (a few days ago) I've been successfully using Google Drive as a mounted filesystem using RClone. Now it fails with an Unauthorised Access error. Diligent searching and consulting several LLMs seem to confirm that Google has changed policy regarding access to accounts with Advanced Protection enabled, and that RClone is no longer certified. Apparently talks are ongoing between Google and the RClone devs. One solution is to disable Advanced Protection on the Google account, but this is global, not granular to just RClone, so I'm reluctant to do it. Has anyone managed to resolve this? I'm open to using a different client for Drive access, but it must be scriptable. Any thoughts? poc
