tip: Firefox -> File -> eMail link: Thunderbird is already running

Hi All, Fedora 41 thunderbird-128.4.3-1.fc41.x86_64 firefox-132.0.1-2.fc41.x86_64 Since upgrading from Fedora 39 to Fedora 41, when I go into --> Firefox -> File -> eMail link I get told that Thunderbird is already running, which it is. This is a regression bug that I reported over on: Firefox file-> email link regression: Thunderbird is already running https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=1933006 Whilst our intrepid heroes over on Mozilla work on this regression, the work around is to install 124.0.1-2 from fc40's repo: # dnf downgrade firefox --releasever=40 And that worked perfectly. -T

What is DNF Check-upgrade Actually Doing

Hi, I have to questions around what that command is doing. 1). Why is it producing the messages "Updating and loading repositories:"and "Repositories loaded." with nothing between them which means that it didn't do anything? This functionality is independent of whether the command is issued under sudo or not. 2). When it does list repositories between the two messages, what is it actually doing when the command is not issued under sudo, particularly when issuing the command lists the two updates repositories and then issuing it again immediately after produces nothing between the two messages? regards, Steve

DNF Upgrade Query

Hi, When I issue the command "sudo dnf upgrade", and it decides it needs to update and refresh all repositories, with the command I've just issued I noticed that it refreshed the google-chrome repository twice. Why is DNF doing that when there is only one repository definition in the .repo file, unlike the standard Fedora .repo files which have 3 repositories defined (not necessarily all active). regards, Steve

F41 installation issue on Framework 16 laptop: stuck keyboard input (solution)

I've been using a Framework 16 laptop that was originally installed with F40 and updated to F41 (XFCE Spin), without any issues. I just ran into a hillarious installation issue, posting it here in order to feed the search engines. I just received a second Framework 16, so I fed the F41 XFCE spin image to it. After booting it the keyboard responsiveness was horrible. Typed text took 5-10 seconds to be echoed back in the terminal, or in Anaconda. I thought I had a hardware issue, I even took it apart again, and reseated the keyboard connector, no dice. Still lagging. But when I booted to a grub prompt, the keyboard was perfectly normal. I booted back into the live image. Eventually I had a Eureka moment: I have to keep the mouse moving, constantly, in order for I/O processing to occur. I can type ahead, then touch the touchpad, and all the buffered input got echoed back immediately. Some further experimentation I determined that not only keyboard input, but also some display refreshing gets stuck until I manually move the mouse. The kernel that's shipping with the F41 live images is a dud. I ran the Anaconda installer (constantly twiddling the touchpad to keep everything moving), then rebooted (the problem remained), then dnf-update-d. After rebooting into the latest kernel, 6.11.10, everything was working fine.

Python 2 to 3 conversion

I'm attempting to convert a small Python-2 script to Python-3. Google appears to think that the best approach is something called 2to3, but I can't get it to work. DNF Selinux Upgrade Failure

Given that I got this in F41 which is an upgrade from F40, has a similar defect been introduced in Selinux in F41? During the same dnf upgrade process I also got the following errors at the end, what log files is it referring to, or has anybody else received these messages and understands what they are? IOTOP Display Query

HI, When I run IOTOP, the first column is TID, what is TID? This display is showing in excess of 50 entries for Thunderbird where all of them have a unique TID value, is Thunderbird really starting that many threads? Also when I run IOTOP I get a display in the middle of the screen that says "task_delayacct is OFF press Ctrl-T to toggle". If I press ctrl-t to toggle it on it stop displaying the item consuming the most I/O at the top of the display, and if I toggle it back off it goes back to showing the biggest I/O consumer at the top. What is task_delayacct and what is IOTOP doing with it? regards, Steve

"rkhunter" gives no warnings. What's going on with that lkm warning?
