Trying to install from ISO via grub.cfg - almost there?
by Philip Rhoades
People,
My old Zenbook has problems running LiveUSBs so I generally use dnf
updates but the last update to F36 has caused problems with audio that I
can't resolve so I want to do a clean install and have been trying to do
this via running the iso from a grub2 config by adding stuff to
40_custom:
#!/usr/bin/sh
exec tail -n +3 $0
# This file provides an easy way to add custom menu entries. Simply
type the
# menu entries you want to add after this comment. Be careful not to
change
# the 'exec tail' line above.
menuentry "Fedora 36" --class fedora --class gnu-linux --class gnu
--class os {
rmmod tpm
set iso_label="Fedora-36"
set iso_file="Fedora-KDE-Live-x86_64-36-1.5.iso"
loopback loop (hd0,gpt5)/$iso_file # sda5 is my home partition
that I preserve between updates
set root=(loop)
linux /images/pxeboot/vmlinuz iso-scan/filename=$iso_file
root=live:CDLABEL=$iso_label ro rd.live.image
initrd /images/pxeboot/initrd.img
}
This actually boots but eventually grinds to a halt with:
/run/initramfs/isoscan: unknown file system type 'swap'
dmesg may have more info . .
EXT4-fs (sda5) mounted file system with ordered data mode. Quota mode:
none.
loop0: detected capacity change from 0 to 4325276
Then lots of:
dracut-initqueue[627]: Warning: . . .
"
Emergency mode . .
And a suggestion to save and look at:
/run/initramfs/rdsosreport.txt
Can anyone suggest what the problem is and how to resolve it?
Thanks,
Phil.

Monitor id detection via HDMI is variable
by Anil F Duggirala
hello,
I am noticing that my new Dell S2421HS is detected and identified differently
depending on when I connect it.
If the monitor is connected when I boot up the laptop, the monitor is detected
as "Dell Inc. DELL S2421HS". If the monitor is connected after logging in, it
is detected as something like "HDMI 1 Unknown - A" (approximately).
Does anyone have some insight into why this is happening?
I using KDE Plasma desktiop,
thank you,
Anil

by Patrick Dupre
Hello,
I need to modify the behavior of some keys of my keyboard.
Should I use Xmodmap?
Typically
keycode 112 = Prior KP_Home Prior KP_Home Prior Prior
How can I do it 1) manually, 2) automatically?
Thank

Scan apps are crashing
by Patrick O'Callaghan
simple-scan, scanimage and xsane all getting this:
$ scanimage
Output format is not set, using pnm as a default.
bugchk_free(ptr=(nil))(a)modelinf.c(464)
Aborted (core dumped)
Presumably it's from a library. Anyone else getting this? I don't see
any reports on BZ.

Fw: mount fails for btrfs filesystem, need help please.
by George R Goffe
Hi,
I started getting i/o error messages accessing this filesystem so I rebooted the system. This might have been the wrong thing to do. This subsequent boot went to maintenance mode due the filesystem's path being in /etc/fstab.
I need some help with this please. Here is what mount says:
mount /dev/sda6 /opt.

Interrogating BIOS from CLI? - dmidecode doesn't have the info
by Philip Rhoades
People,
I have a fairly recent ASUS ROG motherboard that I want to interrogate
from the CLI - specifically to see which SATA drives are hot-swappable
but dmidecode does not supply that information - is there some way of
getting the info without rebooting into the BIOS setup screen? I am
running F36.
Thanks,
Phil.
