OT: problems with xsane
by Geoffrey Leach
The Brother DS-640 is a USB-interfaces document scanner. I've been
attempting to use it with the Xsane app. All I get is a 1/2" vertical
stripe.
AFAIK there is no option to Xsane that effects the displayed scan.
OTOH, I've tried two DS-640 with the same result
Any pointers? Thanks.

fedora-release-35 still installed after 35->36 upgrade
by Ian Pilcher
I just noticed that my newly upgraded system is still checking the
Fedora 35 repos when I run 'dnf update'. Not confirmed yet, but I
suspect it's because I still have fedora-release-35 installed.
$ rpm -q fedora-release
fedora-release-35-36.noarch
fedora-release-36-17.noarch
Anyone else seen this?

First 5 minutes with f36
by Tom Horsley
Installing in a virtual machine, the spinning worm doesn't spin.
The progress bar moves, the install works, but there was apparently
no point in the spinner at the left of the progress info.
The first thing the intro to gnome 42 tells me is to use the "Super"
key. There is no key labelled "Super". Some hint about alternate
names might help the newbies the intro is presumably designed
to help (experimentation revealed it was the Start key :-).
Shutting down the virtual machine hung for about two minutes waiting
for packagekit.service to stop.

bluetooth mic input support on f35
by Alex
Hi,
I'm trying to use my Angteela BH-M9 bluetooth headset on fedora35. I can
get the output speakers to work, but the mic does not. Is this supported?
I've seen several other references to others having difficulty, but no
solutions, or they were for much older versions of fedora.
I can connect the the device to bluetooth, but it apparently doesn't detect
it as a potential input device.
When I click the "sound settings" for the bluetooth device, the "Input" tab
just shows "no input sources are currently available."
I have no idea how to get started troubleshooting this.

Hola, Amigos!
Let's start by congratulating ourselves on the fabulous feature-packed

As a part of the celebration, we have a Release Party coming up and even you can
join/host something in your area!
More of that later, Today we announce the dates and time for our next

call is usually led by Marie Nordin (the FCAIC), Mariana, and Me. We
love talking about what's happening around you, and how you are
involved in outreach, and this is the *BEST* place to be if you want
to be the face of outreach in your region.
We have a lot of announcements about how we want to shape the
Outreach, in the recent past, we have had folks request us for
guidance, budget and proposed tickets in Mindshare repo. We will love
to take questions and even guide people to become future Ambassadors
if you aren't one!
This call will be recorded for archival purposes. The recording for the
last call is up on Youtube (unlisted due to bad quality) [0]. We have
set a new meeting for this month, Wed, May 18, 2022 - 15:00 UTC [1].

Nvidia open sources some kernel GPU drivers
by Patrick O'Callaghan
https://arstechnica.com/gadgets/2022/05/nvidia-takes-first-step-toward-op...
It's a first step at least:
Nvidia is specifically releasing an open source kernel driver under
a dual MIT/GPL license and is not currently open-sourcing parts of
the driver that run in user space. This includes drivers for OpenGL,
Vulkan, OpenCL, and CUDA, which are still closed source, in addition
to the firmware for the GPU System Processor (GSP). Nvidia says
these drivers "will remain closed source and published with pre-
built binaries," so it doesn't sound like there are immediate plans
to release open source versions.

Problems with ssh after upgrade to F36
by Jouk Jansen
L.S.
After upgrading to F36 I have problems accessing the F36 server with ssh
form OpenVMS machines. The problem is probably (again) that OpenVMS only
supports "old" keys. In the past I added the following to my sshd_config:
Ciphers +aes128-cbc
MACs umac-64-etm@openssh.com,umac-128-etm@openssh.com,hmac-sha2-256-etm(a)openssh.
com,hmac-sha2-512-etm@openssh.com,umac-64@openssh.com,umac-128(a)openssh.com,hmac-
sha2-256,hmac-sha2-512,hmac-md5,hmac-md5-96,hmac-sha1,hmac-sha1-96
KexAlgorithms curve25519-sha256(a)libssh.org,ecdh-sha2-nistp256,ecdh-sha2-nistp384
,ecdh-sha2-nistp521,diffie-hellman-group-exchange-sha256,diffie-hellman-group-ex
change-sha1,diffie-hellman-group14-sha1,diffie-hellman-group1-sha1
This worked in F35. Probably some encryptions are disabled. How can I enable
them again?
Regards
Jouk
