Post F34 upgrade - Google Earth not starting
by Max Pyziur
Greetings,
Starting Google Earth from the menu, nothing happens.
When starting from the command line, the following is displayed:
pyz@p ~> /usr/bin/google-earth-pro
/usr/bin/google-earth-pro: line 21: 19949 Segmentation fault (core dumped) "$(dirname "$(readlink -f "$0")")/googleearth-bin" "$@"
Any advice?
Thank you,
Max

weird flicker of fedora logo in gnome?
by Tom Horsley
I can't decide if this is a feature or a bug. I haven't yet
finished configuring fedora 34 to use my FVWM session instead
of gnome, so I'm running gnome on xorg with nvidia binary drivers.
At seemingly random times, the fedora logo down in the bottom
right corner will flicker like it is folding down to the corner, then pop
back up. I mostly notice it when running a dnf update since
there is nothing to do but watch the screen while it downloads
and updates.
Anyone else see this? Is it supposed to be a clever animated
feature, or is it just a bug? (Just curious, it clearly
isn't critical :-).

similar software as NewPipe, etc on F34?
by Ranjan Maitra
Hi,
I use NewPipe from the FDroid repo on android to watch YouUube videos, without downloading. I am aware of youtube-dl but is there something on F34 that makes it possible to watch streaming videos on YouTube?
Thanks,
Ranjan

Subject: What is the best (and free) Linux softphone?
Subject: What is the best (and free) Linux softphone?
Good day from Singapore,
I already have an Asterisk-based FreePBX VoIP IP PBX SIP server
virtual appliance (VirtualBox).
I do not want to spend so much money on buying physical IP phones.
Recently, I migrated my Fortigate 60D firewall, Huawei E3276s-920 4G
LTE USB modem, FreePBX virtual appliance (on laptop) and 1 unit of
Cisco 7960 IP phone from my home to the community hostel. I cannot
migrate too many hardware to the community hostel even though I have 4
Cisco 7960 IP phones.
As stated earlier, I do not want to spend so much money on buying
physical IP phones.
I am trying to save as much money as possible as I live in extreme
poverty in Singapore. My proposed solution is to install many Linux
virtual machines on my laptop. Each Linux virtual machine will have a
softphone.
So my ultimate question is: What is the best (and free) Linux
softphone available? Do I have many choices?
I am looking forward to your reply.
Thank you very much.

Hi,
You’re asking for “the best soft phone “...
Impossible to tell, it depends on what you regard as “the best”! (If such criteria does exists. It like asking for the best pizza)
Some (!) Options are:
- Linphone,
- Ekiga,
- jitsi (phone, not jitsi-meet)
- all I forgot.
Much depends on user expectations, effort during installation, etc etc

dnf system-upgrade dependency resolution failure
by Sam Varshavchik
I'm trying to update a system that has some locally-built packages. They get
installed from a local repository. I rebuilt all the packages in mock for
F34.
Problem 1: problem with installed package libcxxbase-selinux-0.23.0.20210503-1.fc33.20210503063931.x86_64
- libcxxbase-selinux-0.23.0.20210503-1.fc33.20210503063931.x86_64 does not belong to a distupgrade repository
- nothing provides selinux-policy >= 34.3-1.fc34 needed by libcxxbase-selinux-0.23.0.20210503-1.fc34.x86_64
dnf sees the .fc34 package, but then claims no knowledge of "selinux-policy
>= 34.3-1.fc34".
I see selinux-policy-34.3-1.fc34.noarch.rpm in updates, and with specifying
--allowerasing results in my local packages getting uninstalled, and the
selinux-policy updated normally. This one has me stumped.

Dear All,
I have just upgraded from F33 to F34, and everything seems to be
working fine except when booting: a message appears saying:
Failed to load kernel modules.
Any ideas?
Thanks in advance,

Running Fedora in Memory
by Earl Ramirez
Dear All,
Has anyone used Fedora in memory? I saw that there are couple OSes that
are capable of doing this and wonder if this is possible to achieve
this with Fedora.
Thanks
