grubby fatal error can't find theme??
by Michael D. Setzer II
Wondering if others are seeing this?
Seen dnf install new kernels, and notice the grubby fatal
error message?
Afterwards, the new kernel seems to be installed, and
shows at top of the grub menu, but it is not the default
kernel, but the previous kernel remains the default.
Can run grub2-mkconfig -o /boot/grub2/grub.cfg
and it runs fine, and makes the new kernel the default
with no problem?
Is something in grubby broken. I've seen this on a
number of systems.
Just wondering.

javaws jnlp applications?
by Alex
Hi,
I have a fedora33 install with
icedtea-web-2.0.0-pre.2.alpha13.patched1.fc33.x86_64 and would like to
use it to connect to an older SuperMicro IPMI system.
The problem is that it apparently only supports TLS1.0
Sat Mar 06 19:16:54 EST 2021 [DEBUG ]
net.adoptopenjdk.icedteaweb.resources.initializer.BaseResourceInitializer:
failed to determine best URL: java.lang.RuntimeException: All
callables completed exceptionally:
- javax.net.ssl.SSLHandshakeException: The server selected protocol
version TLS10 is not accepted by client preferences [TLS13, TLS12]
- javax.net.ssl.SSLHandshakeException: The server selected protocol
version TLS10 is not accepted by client preferences [TLS13, TLS12]
I read that I could disable the minimum encryption allowed, but it
references a file named java.security, which is part of java-1.8.0,
not icedtea-web, so doesn't apply. Is there an equivalent file
included with icedtea-web that I can adjust for this temporarily?
Or another javaws application I can use for this?

What is the "compositor"?
by Jonathan Ryshpan
What is the function of the "compositor"? In KDE, controls for it are
available at:
System Settings -> Display and Monitor -> Compositor
There's no useful documentation that I can find in System Settings or
on the web; it seems to have something to do with visual effects:
transparency, shadowing, and possibly others. Any info would be
interesting.
Thanks - jon

Intercept keyboard on a specified program
by Paul Smith
Dear All,
I am trying to intercept a program that I would specify so that I can
do something like: if I write, on the specified program,
br + TAB
expand that to "Best regards".
I know about AutoKey
https://github.com/autokey/autokey
but I would like to create my own, since AutoKey is a bit buggy.
Thanks in advance,
Paul

Ethernet port "bounce" command?
by Doug H.
I am having an odd problem with my ethernet port. I assume this came
with a dnf update but that was some weeks ago so I can't help figure
out what update might have done it. When first discovered I think I
found that booting from an older kernel did not fix it. I assume that
the physical interface is not the problem since a physical "bounce"
always fixes it and it shows no other problems. To explain that...
The trouble is that the ethernet port will not come out of the "no-
carrier" state no matter how much I mess with the various commands that
are supposed to effect it.
The simple fix is to physically unplug and replug the cable. When it is
not working (each reboot) there are not lights on. The physical
"bounce" lights up the LEDs and it comes right up.
So, I am asking for something to add to rc.local that does the same
thing.
I use a wifi adapter for my main/Internet connection. This port is just
used for a wired link to my Raspberry Pi.
The command that seems like it *should* work:
sudo mii-tool --reset enp5s0
But that does not fix it.
Info:
The below is taken while it is working...
sudo lspci -v

Signing kernel modules
by Geoffrey Leach
I'm in the process of installing BirtualBox on Fedora32 (up to date).
The installation process appears to require that I sign some kernel
modules.
How do I do that?
Thanks.

Grub recovery after windows 10 has changed the boot
by Terry Polzin
Forced to work from home these past months, I have been booting my laptop
into windows rather than Fedora 32.
I have typically let the machine suspend and now after repeated
suspensions it appears that GRUB has been overwritten there is no menu and
the laptop boots straight into windows 10.
How do I get grub back?
