Problems with conflicts on today's updates (f33)
by Neal Becker
I think at this point this is a clean F33 installation. Today I got this:
$ sudo dnf update --best --allow

/var/lib/system-upgrade
by Erik P. Olsen
I've noticed that the subject directory contains a lot of fc22 rpm's. Can somebody
explain what purpose it serves? It takes up much apparently unused space (some 1.5 GB)
that I would happily use for other purposes.

In a new install of Fedora 33, XFCE there is no audio and when I try to
use pavucontrol to troubleshoot the display starts but my cursor pointer
is lost. I can do the same command from this computer via ssh and get
the following result:
[bobg@Workstation-2 ~]$ pavucontrol
Connection to pulseaudio failed. Automatic respawn in 5s.
What can I try next?

libuv-1.40.0-1.fc32.x86_64.rpm 'is not signed'
by John Pilkington
I just had a failed build of MythTV, apparently because this libuv
package is not signed. A build done yesterday was successful and is
running. Attempts to 'dnf reinstall libuv' also fail with the same error.
Is it just me?

dnf for newbies
by David
I am just curious if the Fedora Wiki on dnf is the best source of info on
the current state of dnf.
I see on YouTube all the Debian / Ubuntu-fanboys criticizing dnf.
The other sources of info on the web about dnf seem to be at least prior to
2018.
I do not yet know enough to help update those sources. But I would like
to form a correct opinion on the topic.
The Fedora wiki page “dnf vs. apt” needs some tender-loving-care, or TLC.

P.S.
Here is a video that some MATE lovers will find of interest:
https://youtu.be/Qxdl7nGnHbM
This guy knows 100x more than I do, but he still only does a very brief
look at Fedora in a VM and with only 1GB of virtual memory.
He briefly criticizes dnf which re-sparked my interest in getting up to
date on the subject-matter.

btrfs RAID 5?
by Richard Shaw
From what I've been able to find online it doesn't look like RAID 5 is well
supported by btrfs currently. Anyone have any data to the contrary?
I have a 4TB media drive that's filling up and I'd like to add two more
disks to both increase capacity and add some redundancy. My understanding
is that if I did a 3 drive btrfs RAID 1 that I would just have 3 copies of
the same data and zero increased capacity.
Thanks,
Richard

Solution to Blank Screen in Output Video During Screen Recording in
OBS Studio for Fedora Workstation 33 Linux
by Turritopsis Dohrnii Teo En Ming
Subject: Solution to Blank Screen in Output Video During Screen
Recording in OBS Studio for Fedora Workstation 33 Linux
Good day from Singapore,
My laptop is a refurbished HP Elitebook 840 G1 installed with Fedora
Workstation 33 Linux 64-bit.
My integrated VGA cards are:
[teo-en-ming@localhost ~]$ lspci | grep VGA
00:02.0 VGA compatible controller: Intel Corporation Haswell-ULT
Integrated Graphics Controller (rev 0b)
03:00.0 VGA compatible controller: Advanced Micro Devices, Inc.
[AMD/ATI] Mars [Radeon HD 8730M]
When I do screen recording in OBS Studio, the output video shows a blank
screen.
I have solved this problem by doing the following few steps.
$ sudo nano /etc/gdm/custom.conf
Uncommment the following line.
#WaylandEnable=false
Save the file.
Reboot your laptop.
You should now be able to do screen recording in OBS Studio without
blank screen in the output video. It is this simple.
