Today is the first I've seen this happen. This happened both before and after doing today's "dnf upgrade". Trying "dnf upgrade rkhunter" does nothing.
Is the problem on my workstation or somewhere else? If it's on my workstation, how do I fix it?
thank-you in advance,
Bill.

SPDIF sound in F32
by Greg Woods
After wrestling all day with an ASUS Xonar SE card (with accompanying
Googling), I now believe that this card cannot be made to work in Linux.
Stereo output through the green line out port works fine, but SPDIF does
not. "lspci" actually claims this thing is a USB controller, although as I
mentioned stereo sound does work.
Does anybody have a PCIe sound card that is known to work with SPDIF 5.1
surround sound output? It has to be optical as those are the only digital
ports on my receiver.
One frustrating thing about trying to search for information online is that
I come up with a lot of stuff that is way too old to be useful. For
instance, a lot of the advice articles I found on getting sound working
mention 4Front and OSS sound drivers, which is probably 15-20 year old
information. I'm looking for first hand "yes I know this card works", or
at least a pointer to something that isn't Ubuntu specific and is recent
enough to be useful.
Thanks,

dnf-automatic command_email failing to send email?
by Gunnar Niels
Hello, I'm trying to configure dnf-automatic to automatically upgrade my system
on a daily basis and send me a summary via mailx using my mailgun account.
I have mailx configured and functioning as expected; I can use the 'mail' cmd
to send mail, and have other services using it to send mail.
The following gist[1] has my /etc/dnf/automatic.conf; all I've really changed about
it is to specify to use 'command_email' and uncommented the default 'command_format'
and 'stdin_format', along with setting the from/to emails. I've dropped some
debug logs into the python it runs, and I can see it gets to the emitter fine.
I was even able to send an example email with the emmitter that was constructed
by manually setting the subject and body and running `emitters[0].commit()`[2]!
The error I'm seeing in the dnf-automatic.service logs is:
Jul 29 06:45:16 <host>dnf-automatic[6226]: . . . message not sent.
Is this is a bug or do I have something misconfigured? Would be much appreciated
if someone could point me in the right direction.

Create bootable disk with fedora - but not using live-CD
by Barry Scott
I want to create a bootable USB stick that runs fedora.
I do not want to create a Live-CD USB stick because live-CD
fails to boot on my main PC. And no one seems to know how to
fix this. By using a read-write USB stick I can add in debug
code to the boot process and try to findout what is hanging
the boot process.
What my google-fu is failed to do is figure out how to find
instruction on how to do this with getting live-CD instructions.
I'm guessing that I should be able to use anaconda or dnf to get
the heavy lifting done.
Does anyone know what the steps I need to follow are?

cron is failing to run for selinux context, but everything looks
fine
by stan
Recently, I've noticed that some jobs that are started by dwatch,
aren't starting. If I start them manually, they start fine. dwatch is
in cron.d, and should be running every 5 minutes, but no cron jobs are
running. I see the following in journalctl,
Jul 28 10:07:08 localhost.localdomain crond[1192]: (root) FAILED (loading cron table)
Jul 28 10:07:08 localhost.localdomain crond[1192]: ((null)) No SELinux security context (/etc/crontab)
but when I check the security context, it seems fine to me.
-rw-r--r--. 1 0 0 system_u:object_r:system_cron_spool_t:s0 451 Jul 24 2019 /etc/crontab
Before I open a bugzilla, I wanted to check if anyone has an
explanation for this, and a fix.

Curious Mystery Of Killed Process
by Thomas Dineen
Gentle People:
I have a question about "The Curious Mystery Of Killed Process At 4:56 AM"?
For some while now I have been developing a optimization application, which
depending on the machine may run for several days.
The development process has played out over a month or more of
testing, finding many bugs
including several Segmentation Fault Crashes, which are usually found
and fixed
with the help of GDB.
Now I have a new one: After running for several days the application
terminates,
and prints "Killed" in the shell window. Now know this did not likely
occur via the
keyboard because of physical security. Can a process kill itself? Is
this simply caused
by a bug which must be chased down? Could this be caused by a shortage
of resources?
Memory? Threads? Is there a limit on the number of threads?
I am running GCC 4.4.7 on CentOS 7.0
Thank You for any thoughts.

Various bugs with the new 5.7 kernel on Fedora 32

I just upgraded to the new 5.7 kernel and it has a lot of bugs.
It can't even initialize my swap file:

18 Jul 26 21:01:26 localhost.HPNotebook systemd[1]: Dependency failed
for Swap.
This doesn't happen in 5.6
There are a slew of other problems.
A log file can be found here:
https://pastebin.com/iL9Yd5cj
I really am too tired to file a bug since nothing really gets fixed.
What I want to do is uninstall the 5.7 kernel.
If I uninstall the kernel will running an older kernel cause problems
during system upgrade ?

Fonts "forgotten" on boot (changes to font cache)
by Christopher St. Louis
I've been dealing with this absolutely bizarre issue for a few weeks now where
installed fonts seem to be "forgotten" on boot. My desktop is a combination of
tiling window manager (i3) and status bar (polybar), and when I start up my
computer I find that the compact bitmap font (curie, manually installed) that
the status bar is supposed to use has been replaced by a much larger and uglier
font.
After digging around to see if either of the above programs were the cause of
it (some change made to the status bar's configuration when updating the
program, etc.), I discovered that apparently the font I assigned to the status
bar was no longer part of the system font cache--"fc-list | grep curie" returns
nothing. The bizarre part is, the font files are still in their directory in
/usr/share/fonts/, and running "sudo fc-cache -fv" results in the fonts both
appearing on my status bar and showing up when I run "fc-list."
But this has become a regular issue as I said for several weeks--it took some
time to recognize this as a persistent issue and not just some accidental
consequence of me mucking around somewhere that I shouldn't have. If I had to
try and be more specific I'd say the problem has existed since kernel 5.7 was
released in F32 (not saying I think it's kernel-related, but that's the only
milestone I can think of to date this problem).
I know very little about how fonts work in Linux in general and am hoping
someone could shed some light on why this may be happening. In my limited
understanding, it seems like something is happening to my font cache at
shutdown/startup that is causing at least some fonts to be excluded even though
they are still installed in the system font directory. I'm assuming some other
program/process is making some sort of change to the font cache, but as this is
the system and not user font directory, wouldn't said program/process need to
have elevated permissions to make these changes? How would I even begin trying
to track down what's responsible for this issue?
Thank you in advance.

touchpad driver - F32

Touchpad stopped working with version 32 (perhaps earlier?) At one
point there was an X.org configuration required, but that appears to
have become irrelevant. Is there a FAQ?

SATA3 _A1, SATA3_ 2, etc. -
by Bob Goodwin
There are four SATA data connectors on a new main board. Usually I just
plug in to them as convenient disregarding the numeric designations. Is
there a proper order in which to connect two or three drives and what is
it. Neither the board manual or my google searching have been any help.
The connectors are labeled:
SATA3 _A1 SATA3_1 SATA3 _A2 SATA3_ 2
Can someone tell me what order to use them in or if it matters? They are
labeled so it would seem there certainly must be a reason ...
