Qt window doesn't fit the screen
by Hiisi
Hello, Fedora folks!
I'm trying to use cura-lulzbot (a 3D-printer slicer), the latest
version from fedora repos. However, the window doesn't fit my laptop
screen and I can't scroll to the bottom of the window to access some
buttons there. I remember back in the days of gnome2 it was possible
to hold Alt key and drag to the bottom of the screen. This option
seems to be unavailable in the current release of gnome fedora comes
with. Any workaround? The package in question is
cura-lulzbot-3.6.21-2.fc31.noarch. My laptop screen resolution is
1366x768. This is maximum :( The app works just fine when I connect
the external display with higher resolution and move the window there.

podman and mysql
by Simon Colston
Fedora 31 Workstation
I am running mysql in a container using podman. After some experimenting I got it running with this command:
podman run --detach --userns=keep-id \
--security-opt label=disable \
--name=mysql \
--env="MYSQL_ROOT_PASSWORD=mysql" --publish 3306:3306 \
--volume=/home/simon/servers/mysql/var/lib/mysql:/var/lib/mysql mysql:8.0 \
--character-set-server=utf8mb4 --collation-server=utf8mb4_unicode_ci \
--lower_case_table_names=1
The bits that took time to research were:
--userns=keep-id - which maps my user to the same uid in the container
--security-opt label=disable - which disables SELinux in the container (dev machine so OK)
I could then connect to the database using the mysql client:
mysql -u root -p -h 127.0.0.1 -P 3306
Now, after a dnf upgrade this has stopped working and I get an error message:
ERROR 2003 (HY000): Can't connect to MySQL server on '127.0.0.1' (111)
The container is running and appears to be healthy. I've tried recreating the container and reinitialising the database
(by deleting all the files).
[simon@hedgehog ~]$ podman ps

d7ee24d35a93 docker.io/library/mysql:8.0 --character-s 12 minutes ago Up 12 minutes ago 0.0.0.0:3306->3306/tcp mysql
Podman was updated during the upgrade, as was the kernel and a bunch of other stuff.

Does anyone have any idea how I can get this working again? Or any clues as to how I should go about investigating further?
Thanks,

NetworkManager and PEERDNS=no
by Tom Horsley
I keep seeing signs that "network" will someday disappear
entirely and I'll be forced to use NetworkManager, so the
first question I haven't been able to find an answer
for:
What is the "proper" way to setup a network connection
using nmcli which will get an IP via DHCP, but will ignore
the DHCP provided DNS and use a different DNS server specified
manually? (I can do it using techniques like chattr +i on
/etc/resolv.conf, but that isn't exactly "proper" :-).

Automatic mount of external HDD.
by Erik P. Olsen
I have an external 2TB HDD which is defined in /etc/fstab so it is mounted at system boot
time. I would like to be able to have it mounted automatically with the same mount point
as defined in fstab when it is hot-plugged and unmounted when it is later disconnected.
Is that possible and if so how to do it?
Thanks in advance.

Firefox view is 20% bigger since yesterday updates
by Frederic Muller
Hi!
Did updates yesterday (or Saturday.. more likely) and suddenly Firefox
got 20% bigger. I've installed an extension to automatically reduce all
tab sizes to 80% but it doesn't work consistently.
I was wondering if i was the only one and if there was a more reasonable
fix than the addon I'm using.
Thank you.

wine staging?
by ToddAndMargo
Hi All,
What is the current policy regarding Wine versus Wine
Staging now that Wine Staging has been absorbed by Wine?
Are we sticking with Staging?
-T
My favorite was Staging as they actually fixed far
more bugs than regular Wine.

This I have no idea
On euripide:

on the other one:
systemctl status vncserver@:9.service

I always run remmina in
VNC viewer mode, in ssh tunnel

How to modify/add compose (multi key) shortcuts and keyboard layout
with wayland?
by Gregory Salvan
Hi,
I've failed these last days to edit my keyboard layout and add compose shortcuts on a fedora 30 (5.4.17-100.fc30.x86_64) with gnome 3.32.2 on wayland.
For keyboard layout when editing /usr/share/X11/xkb files I can replace some keys, but I would prefer do it at user level to not have my files erased by an update.
so I've tried ~/.xkb (and even ~/.Xmodmap) dug into /etc/ , ~/.config, and dconf and found nothing relevant.
I've tried with and without ibus.
For compose, I've tried to edit /usr/share/X11/locales/*/Compose and also created a ~/.XCompose file and nothing happened.
Can someone explain me how can I make a user defined configuration for my keyboard layout and for compose keys please ?
