Newbie questions - Rust
by David
Regarding Fedora topics for 2021:
I am just curious what the general direction of rust is - especially in
Fedora.
Is the plan to replace specific applications or dependencies with rust ?
Or to someday have a Fedora version that uses as much of rust were feasible
?
What rust application should I install to give it a try ?
Is the use of rust still just for developers ?

Btrfs labels
by Patrick O'Callaghan
I changed a Btrfs label:
$ sudo btrfs filesystem label /storage
home <------------ Before
[poc@Bree Working]$ sudo btrfs filesystem label /storage storage
[poc@Bree Working]$ sudo btrfs filesystem label /storage
storage <---------- After
But:
$ lsblk -af
NAME FSTYPE FSVER LABEL UUID FSAVAIL FSUSE% MOUNTPOINT
[...]
sdc
└─sdc1 btrfs home 6496d6da-6b7a-4cdd-9bb8-767c08d1c84e 951.9G 49% /storage
^^^^
Has the label changed or not?

vncserver program disappered on FC32??
by Michael D. Setzer II
Have two machines running Fedora 32, and just noticed with the latest
update of tigervnc-server the vncserver is GONE?
Did a downgrade on both machines, and it is back and running just fine.
The one machine had rebooted, and therefor wasn't able to load the
server. The other machine still had the server running from before the
upgrade, so was able to vnc into it.
The file from the /usr/bin director was just no longer there. Tried a
reinstall, and still no file. Only the downgrade option restored it??
Not sure on how to report this. Didn't notice it until trying to vnc into
machine that had rebooted? The dnf whatprovides shows that the
program is included, so not sure what kind of error is in the latest
update??
Thanks and be Safe...

Do you disable IPV6? - Fedora Workstation
by Jorge Fábregas
Hi,
For a while (for a more than 10 Fedora releases) I used to disable IPv6
because I don't use it. It's been a while since I don't but I'm about
to disable it again on my new installation.
Is there a known application/service that might *misbehave* because it
expects a an ipv6 stack these days?
Thanks.

Unable to login into custom live image
by Sreyan Chakravarty
Hi,
I have created a custom live image using livecd-creator, but when I
boot from it there is no way to login into KDE after that.
I have tried adding:
%post
cat <<FOE > /etc/sddm.conf.d/autologin.conf
[Autologin]
User=live-user
Session=plasma.desktop
FOE
%end
But I get the message:
ignoring %post failure (code 1)
/tmp/ks-script-xntc2id7: line 1: /etc/sddm.conf.d/autologin.conf: No
such file or directory
My kickstart file is very basic and I have not added any packages that
would cause problems.

nas
by Ger van Dijck
Hi Francois I use a FritzBox 7490 . You can configure a NAS. I did : It
runs fine.
I do not now if Fedora has NAS possibilities.

Dragora bollixed?
by Beartooth
I'm running F33 Mate, but I think I was also seeing the problem I'm
asking about under at least F32, and maybe also earlier.
Dragora has two icons that I can put on a panel. One of them is
supposed to be an updater. It works, afaict.
The other seems intended to do what it used to: permit me to
slice and dice lists of apps, and to install or remove them. On any new
install I used to use it heavily, eliminating apps I knew I'd never use,
and adding ones not present by default that I do use.
Both icons do only the check for updates. Have I damaged
something? Or is the exhaustive form deprecated?? If so, is there a
replacement?

sudo privileges
by Angelo Moreschini
Hi
some days before, I had a problem about using the *"beep" function..*
... working around, to solve my problem, I got the suggestion to register
myself in the "audio group" ..
I made it using these commands:
*sudo adduser <my_name> audio*
and also :
*sudo usernod -G audio <my_name> *
Actually (after this) I no longer have (I lose the) sudo privileges (I
think, in consequence of these actions).
As well my name still appears inside the /etc/sudoers/ file..,
## Allow root to run any commands anywhere
root ALL=(ALL) ALL
*angelo_user ALL=(ALL) ALL*
(but i am not anymore in the wheel group)
When i try to use the sudo privileges, I get the message :
*<"angelo_dev is not in the sudoers file. This incident will be
reported.">*
In conclusion :
- I am still registered in the /etc/sudoers file
- I am not anymore registered in the wheel group.
I think it could be enough to register me in the "wheel" group again, in
order to still get the sudo privileges, but I am not completely sure about
this :
*....because to be registered in /etc/sudoers is not enough ??...*
(how it works the management of sudo privileges ? )
I would like sono help
tank you
regards
Angelo
