sleeping desktop -
by Bob Goodwin
This Fedora 29 computer"goes to sleep" with no keyboard input for a
rather short time and I don't know how to "wake it?" I really don't know
what mode is causing it, suspect something like suspend/hibernate which
i don't need or want.
When that happens I only know to press the computer on/off button for a
second and restart it immediately. Very annoying ...
Are thee commands I can use to wake it up, if that is what is happening.
If so is it a configuration setting?
This an updated F29, I believe I have the screensaver and lock disabled,
even so, I can recover from them from the keyboard ...

F29-30 x86_64 system hanging requiring a hard reset - debugging
/var/log/messages
by Philip Rhoades
People,
I have been having fairly regular hangs of the whole system - sometimes
I have a little warning of a rapidly slowing system and I can
systematically exit from all the apps and reboot cleanly - but mostly
not and I have to hit the reset button. I used to think it was
overloading the (fast) system (with 32GB RAM) with too many Chrome
windows and tabs but it happens occasionally when the system is very
lightly loaded too. I have new RAM and have checked it with the Pro
version of MemTest86 a couple of times so I don't think it is RAM. I
provide the last lines of the last six /var/log/messages file just prior
to the hang - there is a consistent "SERVICE_STOP pid=1 uid=0" command
that occurs but I don't know if that is normal or not . .
Any suggestions about further debugging would be greatly appreciated!
Regards,
Phil.

Bluetooth mouse battery status
by Chris Bredesen
Hi list,
I reported this issue on the UPower GitLab issue tracker but I don't hold
much hope it'll get the required visibility.
https://gitlab.freedesktop.org/upower/upower/issues/100
I just had my Satechi M1 mouse quit working unceremoniously ... due to a
dead battery. All along, GNOME's power settings have told me that it was at
99%. As per `upower -d`, this device in fact has no battery:
Device: /org/freedesktop/UPower/devices/unknown_dev_CF_A9_BC_C1_9F_FD
native-path: /org/bluez/hci0/dev_CF_A9_BC_C1_9F_FD
model: Satechi M1 Mouse
serial: CF:A9:BC:C1:9F:FD
power supply: no
updated: Wed 31 Dec 1969 07:00:00 PM EST (1567004080 seconds
ago)
has history: yes
has statistics: no
unknown
warning-level: none
icon-name: 'battery-missing-symbolic'
Is this a UPower problem? A device problem? A GNOME problem?
Thanks!

SELinux troubleshoot: can't install modules
by arnaud gaboury
Until a few days ago, my Fedora 29 Atomic host was working perfectly with
SELinux enforced. The server is only a few week old with nothing fancy yet
set or installed.
I changed recently my user (gabx) context from the default unconfined to
systemand ran restorecon. This change may be the root of the problem. I
ran a few a certbot-letsencrypt container which changed a few files
contexts (container_t): maybe did it broke a few things?
I have now a few issues:
1- user gabx can't no more ssh the server: "unable to get valid context for
gabx" (same results from various machine)

$ journalctl -r

2- I can't load modules.
With the help of ausearch and journalctl, I can identify SELinux messages,
I can write a *myapp.pp* module. But then:
-----------------------------------
# semodule -i myapp.pp
semodule: Failed on myapp.pp!
-------------------------------
NOTE: message is very poor and don't help.
I would like to fix all these DELinux issues before I keep
setting/installing app on the server.
Thank you for help.

NFS mount fails -
by Bob Goodwin
After what appears to be an equipment failure I am having trouble
getting a new server connected to a client. After trying whatever I can
think of the client still does:
[root@bobg bobg]# mount 192.168.2.128 /mnt/testb
mount: /mnt/testb: special device 192.168.2.128 does not exist.
While ssh shows:
[bobg@localhost-live ~]$ ll /etc/exports
-rw-r--r--. 1 root root 41 Aug 20 12:30 /etc/exports
Any suggestions.thoughts?
Bob

Something has gone seriously wrong: import_mok_state() failed
by Lonni J Friedman
I'm attempting to install Fedora 30 on an old Macbook Air (7.1), and
as soon as it tries to boot from the USB stick, it fails, printing the
following errors:
######
Failed to start MokManager: Not Found
Something has gone seriously wrong: import_mok_state() failed
######
after which the laptop powers off on its own. This is before any sort
of GRUB menu or anything interactive appears. Its literally this bug:
https://bugs.centos.org/view.php?id=15522
But I'm puzzled how the Fedora 30 grub bits could be broken in this fashion?

coredump.conf defaults?
by ToddAndMargo
Hi All,
/etc/systemd/coredump.conf
# Defaults can be restored by simply deleting this file.
[Coredump]
#Storage=external
#Compress=yes
#ProcessSizeMax=2G
#ExternalSizeMax=2G
#JournalSizeMax=767M
#MaxUse=
#KeepFree=
How to I figure out what the defaults are? Or do the comments
above tell me?
Many thanks,
-T

how simple to get jenkins up and running?
by Robert P. J. Day
colleague wants to play with jenkins on a fully-updated fedora 30
system, so i figured i'd give it a shot on my similar system, with
puzzling non-results.
in short:
1) install jenkins
2) "systemctl start jenkins"
3) temporarily disable firewalld, just for testing
4) attempt to browse to "localhost:8080"
i would have thought that would at least get me to the jenkins webapp
but ...
"This site can’t be reached
localhost refused to connect."
jenkins appears to be running:
● jenkins.service - Jenkins continuous build server
Loaded: loaded (/usr/lib/systemd/system/jenkins.service; enabled; vendor preset: disabled)
Active: active (running) since Fri 2019-08-23 06:19:07 EDT; 6s ago
Process: 10779 ExecStart=/usr/libexec/jenkins/jenkins start (code=exited, status=0/SUCCESS)
... etc etc ...
netstat shows listening on port 8080, and so on.
i'm about to start checking logs but, normally, getting something
like jenkins running is a few seconds worth of:
1) install
2) systemctl start
so while i'm poking around log files, anyone else got jenkins running,
at least to the point of browsing to localhost:8080 to get to the
webapp?
