Re: Fedora 29 LXDE, 32bit, Update-Error-Message
by Chandana De Silva
I have never done dnf update, but I suspect you are getting this
message because the current updates are now installing kernel V5.0.

what happens to firefox?
by François Patte
Bonjour,
Today all my add-ons to firefox do not work!
Français language pack could not be verified for use in firefox and has
been disabled!
There a button "More information", unfortunately the link does not
work...: Page not found
Same problem with: facebook container, flash and video download,
ghostery, lilo, noscript, unpaywall, video downloadhelper
Since they have rewrite the code, firefox becomes more and more ugly! Why?
Thank you.

Boot & Bios Issues
by S. Bob
Hi All;
I've managed to install Fedora 30 on a new LG Gram 17 laptop.
I had to set acpi=off to get the live cd to boot, then I had to remove
the acpi=off and rebuild the EFI grub file so the trackpad would work,
subsequent boots without the acpi=off seem to work fine.
I am seeing an odd situation when I shutdown & restart:
1) shutdown often takes a long time, I see that stop jobs are running
either for packagekit or sometimes "flush journal to persistent storage"
2) sometimes booting up takes a long time , indicating a start job is
running - flush journal to persistent storage
3) If I ever do a hard power off then it boots to what seems to be a
windows boot manager, showing several options, like this:
1. ATA HDD1: HFS512G39TNF-N3A0A
2. ATA HDD2: CT1000MX500SSD4
3. Windows Boot Manager
Then I need to power off again and change the following bios settings,
they always get changed when I hard power off:
Legacy OS Boot - (Gets set to Disabled, Fedora won't boot unless this is
set to Enabled)
RTC Wakeup from S4 - (Gets set to Enabled, Fedora won't boot unless this
is set to Disabled)
SW Guard Extensions (SGX) - (Gets set to Enabled, Fedora won't boot
unless this is set to Disabled)
Sometimes I need to go into secure boot configuration and choose "Delete
All Signatures"
If I do a dnf update and get a new kernel then the above process is
triggered as well
Other than struggling with booting a bit the laptop works great with Fedora.
Anyone have any insight on how to fix the above issues?
Thanks in advance

Boot VGA modesetting in F30
by Sam Varshavchik
I distinctly remember reading somewhere about boot video mode initialization
changes that were going into F30. IIRC, something about a "flicker-free"
effort that tries to switch the video mode only once, permanently, during
boot, and sticking with the same video mode all the way to the desktop.
I updated a system with an Nvidia chipset (an older Nvidia chipset that's
natively supported in Xorg without the need for a binary blob) that does not
use plymouth, it boots using an old-fashioned system console, until X
starts. In F29 its grub menu came up in standard VGA, then the mode quickly
changes to 132 column VGA for the duration of the boot, until the regular
1920x1080 desktop. The 132 column VGA apparently is a 1920x1080 bitmap, so I
pretty much had a single video mode change, already.
After updating to F30, this grub menu comes up unexpectedly in some video
mode that looks like a 640x480 VGA mode. The font looks even larger than a
normal 80 character font. After selecting the kernel, the boot starts, but
only after an unnervingly lengthy delay, I'd say about 5-10 seconds, with a
completely blank screen, before it switches to the same 132 column VGA, with
the boot proceeding normally. This gave me heart palpitations, briefly,
making me believe that the update bricked it.
I can't find anything in the release notes or the documentation, about
fiddling boot screen modes. Any pointers?

F29-F30 Upgrade With KDE Plasma Desktop Problem
by David Dembrow
I have been using fedora with kde plasma desktop. When I upgraded from
fedora 29 to fedora 30 I lost my kde login manager as well as the kde
plasma desktop.
Is there a way to get my kde plasma desktop (or equivalent) back? The
login manager displays a warning message that the plasma desktop is not
available and to select a new one or the default will be used, but there
is no way to select a desktop from the login display.

Stuff not mounting
by Beartooth
My experience with Fedora (currently still F29) has been that any
medium I put into a disk drive or USB slot gets mounted, and an icon of
it put onto the desktop -- until now. Suddenly (i.e., over the last
couple weeks), when I put a medium into the drawer and close that,
nothing visible happens. When I go flailing through sundry menus looking
for an app to mount that medium, it usually just claims blank medium or
none at all; but, once or twice, it tells me I have to be root.
My guess is that what I have loused up this time must be
somewhere in the configuration files. I've tried as many of those as I
could find, but especially Caja, since I run Mate. Clue, please!

F29-30 upgrade.
by William Henry
Hi all,
Anyone experience this: really easy and smooth upgrade but can’t
login? I can see it’s accepting the login (both my userid and root)
but it just cycles back to the login screen.
Been traveling and haven’t had a chance to try other login methods and
sniff around logs to see what’s happening.

borgbackup on Fedora 30
by Leander Hutton
-----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE-----
Hash: SHA256
Just a heads up for anyone using borg to do backup on F30, it seems to have a problem with one of its dependencies that causes the program to fail. Python3-msgpack is the issue. Doing a dnf downgrade to the F29 version (python3-msgpack-0.5.6-5.fc29.x86_64.rpm) looks to be a functional workaround for now.
Thanks.
