Windows??.....
by Eddie G. O'Connor Jr.
Ok.....so I'm just gonna ask, because I've noticed something. There was
a time I could update my machine (Lenovo ThinkPad T-430 / T-420
laptops.) that wouldn't take long and I'd be able to continue to use my
machines for hours until I was ready to either reboot, shutdown, etc. Is
it me?...or has recently Fedora started to behave like Windows?....in
the fact that now when I do updates?....I HAVE to reboot my
machine!!!???? I thought the whole premise of moving away from having to
reboot for each and every update, patch, and fix was one of the major
reasons some people LEFT Windows to BEGIN WITH!? Is this going to be the
"norm"?.....is it because Microsoft has integrated themselves within the
Open Source community that now.....the community is starting to behave
like WINDOWS!?.....because if so?...I may have to start looking for
another distro. The days of me having to reboot just because the SYSTEM
wants me to?......SHOULD have ended with the cessation of my usage of
Microsoft Windows.
Here's Hoping.....

2 mice: different settings. impossible.
by mario futire
Been trying for ages to configure 2 mice differently.
Left one left handed, right normal.
GNOME Contorl Centre cannot do it and I cannot find any sort of application which can do this
libinput list-devices does not even show they are currently left handed.
xinput tells me I should not be using it
WARNING: running xinput against an Xwayland server. See the xinput man page for details.
and google does not help one bit.
Is it such an exotic think to ask? and to ask who?

system-config-users -
by Bob Goodwin
.
Is "system-config-users" not available for Fedora 31? Dnf says there's
no match for system-config-users. Is there an alternative or is it now
command line only?

NFS not connecting -
by Bob Goodwin
.
Due to failure of a 3TB Seagate hard drive (DOM 28 April 2019) i am
rebuilding the server again, this time with no backup to refer to. I am
trying to work from references found searching google, my notes were in
the server. I think what I have should work even if not optimal but /am
unable to get connected from this client which has always worked with
the NFS.
/
/I have tried the various checks/rests and so far the only thing that
looks significant Is:
/
[bobg@Workstation-1 ~]$ showmount -e 192.168.2.128
clnt_create: RPC: Unable to receive
This computer's fstab has the line: 192.168.2.128:home1 /media/nfs
nfs4 rw,soft,intr,fg,comment=systemd.automount 0 0
And at the server exports is:
[bobg@NFS-Server ~]$ cat /etc/exports
/nfs4exports/home1
192.168.2.0/24(rw,sync,insecure,no_root_squash,no_subtree_check)
/nfs4exports/data
192.168.2.0/24(rw,sync,insecure,no_root_squash,no_subtree_check)
My mount command: [root@Workstation-1 bobg]# mount 192.168.2.128:home1
/media/nfs
Also, ssh and sftp both work from this box and from the NFS box, both
are updated Fedora31 systems. i am uncertain of what should be in fstab
and exports but planned on refining that once things work.
Help, suggestions please?

weird delay in some apps after moving to new computer
by Tom Horsley
The most reproducible one is claws-mail which always
takes 25 seconds to start, and the delay seems to be
something to do with dbus messages. Here's some
debug-monitor output that shows the delay:
sig 1575815215.835943 4294967295 org.freedesktop.DBus <none> /org/freedesktop/DBus org.freedesktop.DBus NameOwnerChanged
mc 1575815240.865401 1 :1.8953 org.freedesktop.DBus /org/freedesktop/DBus org.freedesktop.DBus Hello
mr 1575815240.865440 4294967295 org.freedesktop.DBus :1.89531
Went from 15 to 40 sending that Hello. (Which seems to be just the
way you setup a dbus connection, so it isn't very exotic).
Anyone have any clue what might cause this? I tried loading
a bunch of debuginfo files and debugging, but it is all gibberish,
and the most I could tell was that it was waiting on a dbus reply
to a Hello message.

gnome frozen when ssfhs stall
by Patrick Dupre
Hello,
I already complained about the following issue, and I submitted the bug to bugzilla
without feedback.
If I have an open gnome session which turns to sleep because of a lack of
activity. Then, if a sshfs connection stalls, there is no way to relogin
through the gnome-session.
The only option that I have is to kill -9 -1 through a terminal tty
the gnome session, but I lost all the session.
Other options?

Grub.cfg not updating
by Robert McBroom
Updated from Fedora 29 to 31 on a legacy system. Kernel updates no
longer update grub.cfg to the new kernel. Ran grub2-mkconfig -o
/boot/grub2/grub.cfg which finds Windows and Centos 6 but none of the
Fedora kernels. /boot is in its own partition and the Centos kernels
are in the Centos partition on a second drive. A backup of windows 7 on
a usb drive is even found by os-prober. Everything these days seems to
point to uefi systems.
Saved by editing with emacs but distressed.

update firefox, and again your config is messed up
by François Patte
Bonjour,
I updated f30 and a new version of firefox came... and again, firefox
does not use userChrome.css....
toolkit.legacyUserProfileCustomizations.stylesheets is set to true but
firefox 71 seems to not take this into account!
SIGH! SIGH!
Does anyone know how to change this? I want to have the tab bar as the
last bar (ie. just above the tab-windows). I struggled with this with
the preceeding versions of firefox, and have to struggle again with this!!!
As we say in French: "Ils" sont chi...."
Merci.

more hang investigation
by Tom Horsley
My claws-mail hang has now expanded into a gtk2 hang, and it seems
to be specific to running on an Intel i9-9900K, it never happened
on my old haswell system, but now if I install a fedora 31
virtual machine from scratch and run claws-mail in the new VM,
it hangs there as well.
Also hanging is the "config" dialog in gkrellm. The clock and
all the graphs stop as soon as I try to bring up config the
first time. Once I've created it, it comes up quickly on
subsequent requests, so whatever is going on seems to be
happening during the initial construction of a gtk2 window.
Any of this mystery ring any bells for anyone? Maybe I should
try to build a simple gtk2 example program and see if I can
reproduce it.
