Removing LVM
by Patrick O'Callaghan
I'm in the process of trying to clone an existing drive to a new SSD.
The existing drive was created by a fresh F31 install, which used LVM
for root and swap. I normally turn this off when installing but didn't
this time, either because it's not possible or because I couldn't find
the magic button.
Anyway, I cloned each partition using dd, but of course that also
cloned the LVM stuff, including the LVM identifiers. Now I'd like to
roll back the clone of root and just format the partition as ext4, plus
an extra swap partition, but gparted won't let me, as it thinks the
cloned LVM stuff is part of an active LVM setup. The specific error is:
WARNING: Not using device /dev/sdc3 for PV VKT04D-m4CK-6n7L-vSMI-vohC-W8bt-zPVCxS.
WARNING: PV VKT04D-m4CK-6n7L-vSMI-vohC-W8bt-zPVCxS prefers device /dev/sda3 because device is used by LV.
Device /dev/sdc3 excluded by a filter.
Same thing happens if I try to delete the partition.
How can I blow away LVM on the cloned drive without having to start
again from scratch?

last sometimes posts crash on reboot
by Vikram Goyal
Hi,
I am facing a peculiar issue where a system reboot sometimes & not always
posts a crash in last output.
root pts/0 Wed Dec 4 11:47 still logged in
reboot system boot Wed Dec 4 11:30 - 11:57 (00:26)
root pts/0 Tue Dec 3 18:14 - crash (17:16)
reboot system boot Tue Dec 3 10:03 - 11:57 (1+01:53)
root pts/0 Mon Dec 2 18:03 - down (15:56)
reboot system boot Mon Dec 2 11:19 - 10:00 (22:40)
root pts/0 Sat Nov 30 17:22 - crash (1+17:57)
reboot system boot Sat Nov 30 10:36 - 10:00 (2+23:24)
root pts/0 Fri Nov 29 17:35 - down (16:56
I then created an alias - alias reboot='sync && sleep 3s && sync && sleep
3s && /usr/bin/systemctl reboot'

last records sometimes a proper shutdown, many times as crash even though
the reboot is done similarly all the times.
What could be the issue or should I be concerned about it.

MAC of wlan0 wild changes
by Frank Elsner
Hi all,
I've a strange problem with wifi (since this morning?):
Whenever the connection gets re-established the interface wlan0 has a
new MAC addr. This disturbs my dhcp address assignment which is a
MAC/IP pair. Therefor the assigned IP is also a new one.
This effect is new with Fedora 31, never seen before.
What might be the reason?
ifcfg-... file contains
MAC_ADDRESS_RANDOMIZATION=never
Kind regards,
Frank Elsner

Issue: Epson Perfection V39 and imagescan.
by Erik P. Olsen
Have installed imagescan from Epson.com and it works only half way through. Launching
imagescan provides a dialog with some of the button greyed out which they shouldn't be
according to the manual. Pressing the scan button does start the scan but no output is
generated.
Has anybody run into this issue and have probably a cure to it?

Could not upgrade from F29
by Robin Lee
Hi
I've got a Fedora 29 desktop that I thought it was time to upgrade. But
there was a problem. When I ran
dnf system-upgrade download --refresh --releasever=30
I get the following error
Problem: package python2-btchip-0.1.28-1.fc29.noarch requires python2-
hidapi, but none of the providers can be installed
- python2-hidapi-0.7.99.post20-10.fc29.x86_64 does not belong to a
distupgrade repository
- problem with installed package python2-btchip-0.1.28-1.fc29.noarch
What to do?
I seems that python2-btchip is needed by Ledger hardward wallet that I
use.
Cheers
