Is that a reason? Whatever the kernel script is when a new kernel is
installed it *should not* choose a wrong partition as the root partition!!!
This is a new behaviour: before kernel 4.19.6 there was no problem.

I have just upgraded my F29 with
dnf upgrade -y
I continued to use the system without reboot and it suddenly stopped
working. Only the mouse was working. Ctrl+Alt+FN did not work but I
was able to ssh and reboot. It took a while to close linux before
rebooting and then I did not get the usual GRUB menu where I can choos
the kernel but instead just a black screen with a blinking cursor. So
I suspect that the upgrade broke GRUB and I cannot load fedora
I am probably able to boot with a USB stick. What should I do to go
back to normal?
I did an update for the torbrowser-launcher today to version
0.3.1-1.fc29.noarch and suddenly I can not launch the browser anymore .
Question : What is wrong and / or how can I solve this problem ?

For the past few days, most every step of using yahoo e-mail in
Thunderbird is taking minutes rather than seconds. Examples: log in,
selecting a folder, selecting a message. I've changed nothing. I
looked at Thunderbird help. I saw in a different, very recent problem
that the user was advised to change his authentication method.
The authentication methods that Thunderbird offers for IMAP, SSL/TLS are
Normal password, Encrypted password, Kerberos / GSSAPI, NTLM, TLS
I do not have a cell phone or any texting or social networking accounts,
so I cannot use 2-factor.
1. Am I correct is believing that nothing that I did in the "unwanted
checks for updates." thread would cause these problems?
2. What are the advantages, disadvantages, and security risks of each of
the 6 authentication methods offered by Thunderbird for yahoo e-mail?
In a posting in the "downsized grub menu" thread, I said:
"Something keeps trying to do automated updates, but I have not been
able to figure out what, or how to shut it off."
Tim replied, and suggested looking for something similar to MATE's
"mate-session-properties". I'm starting this new thread to address this
I found a settings gui in gnome, but I cannot find anything (other than
".bashrc" and ".bash_profile") for managing what is automatically
started when I log in.
In a LibreOffice thread some time ago, I was advised to install a gnome
package called "Software" so I could install a font needed to replace a
discontinued font in my LibreOffice products. This is when I started
seeing the unwanted update checking and notices. I have not been able
to find a way to configure the package "Software" at all.
How do I get rid of the unwanted update checking and notifications? By
the way, I manually patch the workstation almost every week with "dnf
upgrade". Like some other members of this list, I prefer doing this
After upgrading from F27 to F28, when booting up, I get a quickly
disappearing set of error messages just before the grub menu shows up.
Then the grub menu shows up in a very small gray font. The error
messages disappear too quickly for me to get the full text of them. But
by (re-)booting many times, I've been able to get this much:
(4 lines like ...)
error: file '/grub2/themes/system/[something]' not found.
(a 5th line ...)
Press any key to continue...
The grub menu itself is difficult to read, partly because the font is so
small (one pixel shorter in height and I would need a magnifying glass),
partly because the text color is gray (white would be better). Most of
the grub menu shows up in the upper left corner of the left monitor.
The last line shows up in the lower left corner of the left monitor.
This problem definitely started with the upgrade to F28. What happened?
How do I get this downsized menu back to a bigger, whiter font, with the
whole thing together rather than split between upper and lower corners?
By the way, I cannot find a "/grub2" directory.
It seems downsizing is no longer limited to companies trying to increase
product prices in sneaky ways.

I lost mirror display after this last update and reboot.
In the display panel, the mirror display option is greyed out. I cannot
figure out what magic to enable it.
I have set the resolution of the laptop to the same as the monitor; this
has helped in the past.
The login panel is properly mirrored, but when I log into my account it
switches to the extended mode where I can drag windows from the laptop
screen onto the external monitor.
I have tried all sorts of fiddling with advanced options, but nothing
seems to enable the mirror mode.
Very important here....
thanks in advanced.
