Using external USB DVD/CD drive to burn disk
by Max Pyziur
Greetings,
Problem #2, I have a Toshiba external USB DVD/CD drive.
When plugged into my laptop, it lights up, and I can pop open the drive by
pressing the external button.
However working in Brasero or the command line, I can't find anyway to
burn the iso image that I downloaded.
Much thanks in advance,
Max

Troubleshooting video on Fedora 28
by Max Pyziur
Greetings,
I'm troubleshooting the video output on my F28 desktop. It's a prosaic
system (Shuttle shoebox type of computer), basic video, not a gamer.
On today's bootup, I get no video output. Using an F28 Dell Laptop, I
tested the cable (works), and tested the monitor (works).
Plugged the desktop into a monitor, and the problem remains the same - no
video output.
So, my conclusion is that short of a video port failure, it could be the
video driver.
I can ssh into the desktop and use it that way.
I would be grateful any advice on how to proceed to restore video output.
Thank you.

Update to: Increasingly frequent problem with: "Unexpected system
error"; kernel-core; 4.16.15-300.fc28.x86_64; cannot be reported - related to
Chrome and probably YouTube
by Philip Rhoades
People,
As an update to this post:
https://lists.fedoraproject.org/archives/list/users@lists.fedoraproject.o...
- it looks like it might be a hardware problem after all. After
updating to:
kernel-4.18.13-200.fc28.x86_64
and then spending about a day moving my Default Chrome user to Vivaldi,
and the system looking like it might now be stable - the system just
crashed again - the symptoms: All the Vivaldi windows disappear (just
like what happened with Chrome previously) and then while trying to shut
down cleanly, the whole system becomes unresponsive . .

I am thinking it is maybe a RAM problem? - Chrome, and now Vivaldi are
the only things I use on the workstation (as opposed to the Fedora
server) that use nearly all of the memory.
I use FireFox for my webmail stuff and prefer to keep that separate from
the general browsing but it looks like the problem is not specific to a
particular browser anyway . .
Suggestions about how to proceed with debugging?
Thanks,
Phil.

Problem PXE booting Fedora 28
by Digimer
Hi all,
I tried following this;
https://docs.fedoraproject.org/en-US/fedora/f28/install-guide/advanced/Ne...
I've got to the point where I can PXE boot fine, the kernel and
initrd.img are downloaded by the client, but then the install fails and
drops to the dracut shell.
In the shell, I see that the network interface isn't seen (ip addr
list only shows 'lo'). While debugging this, I found that plugging in a
USB drive is seen (journalctl -f -n 0 -> plug in thumb drive (ext2
format) -> drive seen) but no /dev/sdX device path is created.
I mention the USB issue because a) it might be related and b) I'm
sorry I can't post logs, but I literally can't get data off the PXE client.
These are KVM/qemu VMs (client and server), and I've tried emulating
virtio and e1000 NICs, and the initrd.img is from the normal Fedora 28
Server install DVD.
I'm stuck here, unsure how to proceed or debug further. If anyone can
help directly or indirectly by recommending resources, I'd be very
appreciative. Thanks!
digimer
PS - VM host is also Fedora 28, in case it matters.

apache configuration --running two/2 test sites
by bruce
I have an Apache server -- http://104.248.125.83
I'm simply trying to get the two(2) sites to be accessed via two(2)
different urls..
http://104.248.125.83/foo
http://104.248.125.83/oxwall
I do not have an actual FQDN, the two(2) sites are tests on the box.
The "/foo" and "oxwall" are
aliases within the vhost blocks.
Something is obviously wrong.. No matter what I do... I'm getting the
1st "foo/b2evolution" site!
Can't seem to figure out the "doh!!" issue...
The vhost files below, are included from the /etc/httpd/httpd.conf
(listed at the end)
I thought I could run the vhost files.. didn't work. thought I could
try running two/separate aliases, didn't work..
I'm pretty much willing to try anything to resolve this. Given this is
a test bo, I'm also willing to give the user/passwd if that helps..
thanks
Any thoughts/comments...

4.17.x kernels cause "nvme0: controller is down" on MacBook Air
by Lonni J Friedman
Ever since Fedora(27) released a 4.17.x kernel, my MacBook Air (7,1)
is no longer able to boot at all. It hangs when trying to use the
NVMe disk controller:
nvme nvme0: controller is down; will reset: CSTS=0x3, PCI_STATUS=0x810
and the entire boot process eventually times out completely. If I
return to using the last 4.16.x kernel (4.16.14-200.fc27.x86_64), then
the problem does *not* reproduce, and everything boots normally.
i opened a bug for this problem:
https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=1601196
however, I'm surprised that no one else has run into this issue. Any
ideas or suggestions?
thanks!
