draftsight and f27
by François Patte
Bonjour,
I installed draftsight on a previous f25 installation abd it worked well.
I upgraded to f27 and it is no more working... A splash screen appears,
then nothing happens and the only error message is:
Could not parse stylesheet of object 0x2b89e90
What does it mean and where can I find some help?
Thank you.

Device or resource busy when trying to do a software update
by Martin Wagner
Since some time back I can no longer do a software update using Gnome
Software (version 3.24.3) on my Fedora 26 desktop. Using 'yum update'
works fine. What happens is that when I hit the 'Restart & Update'
button the system is going down and there are some log messages that
flicker by really quickly. Then at bootup after unlocking the disk
there are again some log messages that flicker by quickly. What I
managed to see from the messages is the the phrase 'Device or resource
busy'. After that the system reboots and comes up normally but without
any software updates applied.
I'll attach the end of journald when the system is going down first
time. There are some error, but I don't know what to make of them...
My biggest concern is not really about software update, as yum update
works fine, but about doing a fedup to Fedora 27 at some point. That
would probably not work?

two differents nvidia cards of different generation
by François Patte
Bonjour,
I have an nvidia card Geforce 8800GT and want to add another one:
Geforce 1050 GTX.
Problem: the 8800GT needs a driver 340.104, the 1050GTX, the 384.111 driver.
How can I conciliate these two drivers?
Will nouveau driver able to have these two cards working correctly?
nouveau driver works fine with nvidia cards but proprietary drivers are
better, so I am wondering how to use these cards with the proprietary
drivers.
Thank you for any advice if someone has some experience of this situation.

Fwd: The Intel Management Engine: an attack on computer users' freedom
by JD
Will Linux OS be able to defeat or disable this attack?

Dear Subscriber,
"The Management Engine (frequently abbreviated as ME) is a separate
computer within Intel computers, which denies users
control over their computers, by forcing them to run nonfree software
that cannot be modified or replaced by anyone bu
t Intel. This is dangerous and unjust. It is a very serious attack on
freedom, privacy, and security of computer users.
"
So writes Denis GNUtoo Carikli, free software activist and one of the
co-founders of the Replicant project in a recent
article titled "The Management Engine: an attack on computer users'
freedom."
Intel ME lives inside every computer with an Intel chipset. As a major
producer of home and commercial computing techno
logy, Intel ME can seem not just pervasive, but ubiquitous. This
infringement of freedom is in homes around the world -
- and there's nothing that can be done about it.
With security issues like the Spectre and Meltdown vulnerabilities
discovered in Intel chips -- the most popular chipse
t among x86 users -- it's become more important than ever to talk about
the necessity of software freedom in these deep

In order to help a larger audience understand Intel Management Engine
and the way it affects developers and users alike
, Carikli began working on a book, a section of which he shared with the

Fedora 27 + Bind 9.11: error "named: bad cookie from"
by Dario Lesca
On F27 I have install bind-9.11.1-9.P3.fc27.x86_64 and configure it to
allow a internal dns server resolver for my local lan.
For some domain it's not possible to resolve the host name and into log
I get this error:
For example:
# host -ta www.osra.it
gen 11 16:18:34 named[1347]: bad cookie from 212.239.62.207#53

gen 11 16:18:42 named[1347]: bad cookie from 212.239.62.132#53
;; connection timed out; no servers could be reached
If I repeat the command 2 or 3 time, after a while the name is
resolved, but if I restart named the problem appears again
The only way to resolve this issue is disable use of cookies adding
this option to named.conf.
send-cookie no;
But this approach is deprecated:

Some suggest?
Many thanks

gtkpod and iPod chinese characters in file names
by Gianluca Cecchi
Hello,
I have an old iPOD Nano detected by my F26 as
Bus 002 Device 004: ID 05ac:1262 Apple, Inc. iPod Nano 3.Gen
I have some mp3 files that are english courses for German language.
The command file returns
Audio file with ID3 version 2.3.0, contains: Audio file with ID3 version
2.3.0, contains: MPEG ADTS, layer III, v2, 64 kbps, 22.05 kHz, JntStereo
I can add them as simple files or as components of play list, but in any
case their name inside ipod and gtkpod graphical interface becomes with
chinese characters.
For other mp3 files that I have on disk there is not this sort of problem
See here a screenshot
https://drive.google.com/file/d/192aPGMy4VcALqq9abVcHk5-tS8yrw32T/view?us...
The play of the file on ipod is ok.
If I play the file on disk with mplayer I get these infos:
MPlayer 1.3.0-7 (C) 2000-2016 MPlayer Team
. . .
Playing chapter01.mp3.
libavformat version 57.71.100 (external)

I found this patch proposed for Ubuntu for a similar problem in 2010 but it
seems never merged:

adding the patch and getting a
temporary rpmbuild/RPMS/x86_64/libid3tag-0.15.1b-23.fc26.x86_64.rpm that I
installed.

But then the problem seems still present after restarting gtkpod
Can anyone help? Or any other media application to create playlists on this

wifi won't start after last update f26
by François Patte
Bonjour,
After last update of f26, the wifi does not start on a laptop.
The wifi card is a Broadcom 4312 [14e4:4315].
1- The driver b43 is there but not loaded during the boot sequence.
2- I tried to load it using modprobe, but the wifi indicator does not
light up (do I have to reboot the computer? In that case, how do I force
the module b43 to be loaded?)
3- I tried the b43legacy module too (modprobe b43legacy), same result as
above!
This wifi card worked before the update... what changes have been done?
Thank you for helping.
