[OT]: Question re: youtube-dl
by JD
Hi all youtube-dl users,
Can this program find and download a vid with a rather specific substring
in the URL of the vid?
A substring such as:
"0AmvYqE0amg" for example.
Thanx for the syntax of how to do this.

cockpit
by Patrick Dupre
Hello,
I followed the instructions of
https://linoxide.com/linux-how-to/install-cockpit-fedora-centos-rhel-arch...
Then I can access locally to the service either by localhost:9090
or by using the ip address.
But I cannot do it from outside.
Indeed, I need to go through a ssh port
How can I do it ?
Thank

DNF odities
by Cristian Sava
Trying to update F26 systems:
[root@localhost ~]# dnf update
Waiting for process with pid 28949 to finish.
^CKeyboardInterrupt: Terminated.
[root@localhost ~]# ps aux | grep dnf
root 7724 0.0 0.0 10824 884 pts/0 S+ 08:48 0:00 grep
--color=auto dnf
root 28949 0.0 0.5 391816 47264 ? SNs 01:00 0:00
/usr/libexec/system-python /usr/bin/dnf makecache timer
[root@localhost ~]# killall dnf
[root@localhost ~]# ps aux | grep dnf
root 7734 0.0 0.0 10824 884 pts/0 S+ 08:49 0:00 grep
--color=auto dnf
[root@localhost ~]# dnf update
...
Complete!
[root@localhost ~]# ps aux | grep dnf
root 8099 0.0 0.0 10824 980 pts/0 R+ 08:50 0:00 grep
--color=auto dnf
So the questions:
1) WHY DNF is active without asking?
2) WHY DNF does not ever stop and must be killed to update the system?
That is seen on many F26 boxes (new installs or upgrades).

which system-config-services for fc26?
by Patrick Dupre
Hello,
I did not find a system-config-services for fc26
The last version seems to be for fc24.
Hence, I recompile the fc25 version, but it does not run properly:
ERROR:dbus.proxies:Introspect error on :1.88:/org/fedoraproject/Config/Services/ServiceHerders/XinetdServiceHerder: dbus.exceptions.DBusException: org.freedesktop.DBus.Error.NoReply: Did not receive a reply. Possible causes include: the remote application did not send a reply, the message bus security policy blocked the reply, the reply timeout expired, or the network connection was broken.

[F25] getting an old kernel-header rpm
by Sherman Grunewagen
Can anyone tell me how to get kernel-headers-4.11.8-200.fc25.x86_64 ?
Why? Long story. Short version: my Intel 8265 wireless card is unstable with
kernel-4.11.9 and 4.11.10. With 4.11.8 it is not. But since I have 4.11.10 installed
on my system (with 8, and 9) the kernel-headers are also at 4.11.10.
Vmware workstation needs to build its modules under 4.11.8 which I'm now running.
But it can't w/o the matching kernel-headers!
Thus my question. Or is there a better way?

Connecting to an Active Directory VPN
by Frederic Muller
Hi!
I've just installed F26 and everything works well except my VPN
connection. It used to work perfectly under F25 and I didn't think to
save its settings. I am not however stuck. I did a few (many?) searches
and found actually different results on how to set it up. The most
common results give the following suggestions:
in advanced setting enable MSCHAP & MSCHAPv2
also enable MPPE (no stateful encryption), BSD data compression, Deflate
data compression and use TCP header compression.
Then in the user name field I forgot if I entered domain\username or
just username and entered the domain in the NT Domain box.
Thinking it could have been a F26 issue I just burn a live install of
F25 and tried, same issue.
Checking the error log using journalctl -u NetworkManager.service I am
getting:
pppd[6534]: pppd 2.4.7 started by root, uid 0

I am wondering what I am missing as my former set up Just Worked(tm).
Could I forgot adding a special package? Any hint will be super welcome!
Thanks a lot.

WTF kwrite cannot be run as root
by Emmett Culley
Who decided that I should not be able to use a GUI editor on the servers that I manage?
For the first time since Fedora first became available I am truly sorry I updated to the current release. Even the switch to KDE4 was not such a problem. At least a few developers didn't decide for me how to manage my systems.
I haven't heard anything about this, why is it such a secret? How can I fix this as I am effectively crippled. I use nano for most work on remote servers, But fro all of the server that have a GUI installed we use (used) kwrite.

Compliation error with PDL-Graphics-PLplot-0.71
by Patrick Dupre
Hello,
I tried to make a rpm package from
PDL-Graphics-PLplot-0.71.tar.gz
woyj cpanspec and rpmbuild
but I get an error.
I tried to reach the authors, but the addresses do not seem to be good.
Is there a way to fix them?
