Freezing
by Patrick Dupre
Hello,
Since 1 week, when I update my machine (fedora24) by using
dnf update, during the update, the graphic screen freezes.
The update end properly.
The only thing that I can do it to open a text terminal.
and restart the machine.
I do not see any wrong, except that there is a process
/usr/bin/gnome-shell
which takes 100% of cpu
Even if I kill it, the graphics does not recover.
It seems that there is always such a process running, but it does not charge
the machine.
Thank.

Terrible F25 WiFi Performance
by Christopher
Since I upgraded to Fedora 25, I've had terrible network performance, and
I'm not sure what's causing it.
Any suggestions for troubleshooting or optimization?
Any known issues with the "Intel Wireless 7265D" card or the "iwlwifi"
driver in F25?
Everything worked great in F24, but since F25, I get poor download speeds,
and *REALLY* poor upload speeds. I should get a steady 25/25 Mbps down/up.
Instead, I get an unsteady 6-20 Mbps down, and only ~1 Mbps up. I've ruled
out everything but Fedora 25 (same hardware works fine in F24 and Windows),
and it's making me kinda want to go back to F24. :(

Did anyone get to the bottom of this? I installed F25 a couple of
weeks ago and network performance is noticeably poorer on this
machine. When browsing the internet, or particularly on Ajax based
sites like gmail or google search connections seem to just drop. The
previous Fedora that was on this machine (23 I think) was fine, and my
laptop (still on an older Fedora) and other devices have not
experienced any change. Looking in journalctl as root I see frequent
renegotiation with the AP, e.g.:
Mar 24 00:21:29 atlas wpa_supplicant[864]: wlp2s0: SME: Trying to
authenticate with xx:xx:xx:xx:xx:xx (SSID='X' freq=5200 MHz)
Mar 24 00:21:29 atlas kernel: wlp2s0: disconnect from AP
xx:xx:xx:xx:xx:xx for new auth to 00:a4:23:17:18:e5
Mar 24 00:21:29 atlas kernel: wlp2s0: authenticate with xx:xx:xx:xx:xx:xx
Mar 24 00:21:29 atlas kernel: wlp2s0: send auth to xx:xx:xx:xx:xx:xx (try
1/3)
Mar 24 00:21:29 atlas kernel: wlp2s0: authenticated
Mar 24 00:21:29 atlas kernel: wlp2s0: associate with xx:xx:xx:xx:xx:xx (try
1/3)
Mar 24 00:21:29 atlas wpa_supplicant[864]: wlp2s0: Trying to associate
with xx:xx:xx:xx:xx:xx (SSID='X' freq=5200 MHz)
While the machine is supposedly connected.
There's also this,
Mar 24 00:21:29 atlas systemd-udevd[5658]: Process '/usr/sbin/crda'
failed with exit code 249.
which can't be a good sign.

Fedora 25 (rawhide) disallows dnf upgrades due to certificate
problems
by George R Goffe
Hi,
I have been getting these messages about certificates for several weeks and have filed bug reports. Red Hat is unwilling or unable to give me a definitive resolution to the problem. Seemingly, my Fedora 25 (rawhide) system has started refusing to accept upgrades.
Any/all hints, tips, suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
George...

anaconda problem
by François Patte
Bonjour,
I try to make a new install of fedora 25. I want to make my own
partitionning but it is almost impossible: I create some partitions (/,
/boot, /home, etc) but after sometimes anaconda refuses to do anything:
it does not add anything and this happens randomly after I created 2 or
3 partitions it stops to add anything.
For instance: I create / and swap and /home, after that it stops..... I
exit and come back; I create / and /boot and swap and /home and /var,
then it stops....
Once I could create all partitions I wanted! Unfortunately anaconda
crashed a few minutes after the beginning of the install!
Anaconda is really bugged! (For instance: I ask for an install in French
langage, when I want to add a mount point, a dialog box opens with a
help message in French: "par exemple <<20Gio>> without the quotes" If I
type 20 Gio as suggested, anaconda does not know what 20Gio means
(Gio=Gib in French), and gives an awfull size, for instance 46Mio or
something else...)

Can anyone explain this Evolution behavior to me?
by William Oliver
I'm running Fedora 25, with current upgrades, on an HP laptop (uname
-a: 4.9.14-200.fc25.x86_64 #1 SMP Mon Mar 13 19:26:40 UTC 2017 x86_64
x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux)
I normally use KDE 5 as my desktop, but I use Evolution to read mail.
Recently, and shortly after a recent "sudo dnf upgrade," I ran into a
problem in which I could not reply to emails in Evolution. I could
fetch and read mail, but when I tried to reply, either the window would
come up greyed out and I could not enter text, or I could type a few
letters and it would hang.
This repeated for a couple of days, including various reboots and such.
I didn't get around to running it from a terminal, so I don't have
error messages there, but there were no messages in any logs.
Then I decided to see if the same error occurred in GNOME, since it's a
GNOME program. I brought up GNOME, and it worked fine. Hmmm....
So, I logged in using KDE to run it from terminal and look for error
messages -- and the problem went away! Now it works fine.
I'm just trying to understand why running it in GNOME would fix it in
KDE. Anybody know?

r8712u driver fails in F25
by David A. De Graaf
The r8712u driver from the staging area has stopped working in Fedora
25. This driver supports (among others) my emergency USB DLink DWA-130
adapter that I use when the laptop's built in wireless (Qualcomm
Atheros QCA9377 802.11ac) is "too advanced" to connect to some old
wireless router.
The r8712u driver works just fine in Fedora 24 and it seems to be
substantially unchanged.
I ran 'modinfo r8712u' on both F24 and F25 and diff'd them.
The only differences are in the filesystem locations and labelling.
There was no other substantial difference.
I've monitored dmesg while plugging the DLink adapter in and it's
apparent that
1 - it is detected with proper vendor and product IDs.
2 - the r8712u module is selected and registered.
3 - the correct firmware is loaded from rtlwifi/rtl8712u.bin
4 - an endless stream of messages ensues:
[ 262.524809] IPv6: ADDRCONF(NETDEV_UP): wlan1: link is not ready
and, of course, the new interface never becomes available to
NetworkManager.
What's gone wrong?
Why does the same driver work in Fedora 24 but not in Fedora 25?
How do I regain operability?
