Up to a point, I don't either. But the performance is so bad under KVM that
I cannot even successfully run Windows Update, it takes too long to search
for updates and eventually times out (other network-related things work so
I know it's not my network connection). This does not happen under
VirtualBox.
Actually if that's a win7 VM you are doing it's nothing to do with being a
VM but rather that the updates process is semi broken from a clean SP1
install.
There's so many updates it basically can't handle it.
There was a good rant about it along with some workarounds like the rollup
package and wsusoffline to mitigate this in /r/sysadmin last month
https://www.reddit.com/r/sysadmin/comments/5gy3hx/rant_can_we_talk_about_...
And on a semi related note for future reference for people looking for the
windows virtio drivers the official home from a fedora perspective is here:
https://fedoraproject.org/wiki/Windows_Virtio_Drivers
There's even a yum repo to make it easier to keep up to date on them.
Although the ISO doesn't include the spice agent installer to handle
automatic resizing of the resolution when changing the window and clipboard
sharing... But it does link to the location for the installer for that

How to install all games with dnf?
by Frédéric Bron
How to install all games with dnf?
I tried both:
$ dnf group install with-optional games
and
$ dnf group install games
but my children still complain they do not have all the games they had
before I reinstalled the system.

VMware Workstation vs KVM
by ProPAAS DBA
Hi All;
I'm running Fedora 25 on a laptop with 16GB of ram. I'm frustrated with
the VMware workstation reliably breaking every 2 to 3 kernel updates and
sometimes with no reasonable fix in sight for some time. Not the end of
the world and I get the reasons behind it, however I wonder if KVM might
be a better plan. I used KVM many years ago and it was not quite as
reliable & easy to work with as I needed. I assume it's gotten better?
Questions:
- does anyone have experiences good and bad with KVM? Any gotcha's or
common issues I should be aware of?
- Anyone have experience with both KVM and VMware? opinions on which is
better, more stable, etc?
- Is is easy / possible to convert a VMware workstation VM to a KVM?
- With VMware I get the vmnet network and I don't have to do anything
other than select nat, bridged, etc to get networking in place for a VM,
even if I want to access te VM directly from another machine (i.e. not
the local only network). Is this true with KVM as well?
- If I decide later to remove it does it remove cleanly? I dislike the
vmnet & other bits VMware leaves around even after an uninstall
Thanks in advance..

However the boot proceeds and the system seems OK for the moment. I'm
mentioning this because it's new for me, but Google shows a number of
similar reports going back several years.
Should I worry?

Re: %prep and %autosetup: move the unpacked source directory

At the begining of my build, I need:
- mkdir src/github.com/mattermost

- cd src/github.com/mattermost/plateform-master to start make.
Here is what I wrote in my .spec file:

It seems I am inside the directory I want to move, platform-master.
Why do I cd this directory? How to avoid it so I am able to move this
directory? Or best, how can I unzip the content of master.zip in src/
github.com/mattermost/platform?
Thank you for help to write these few lines in a clean manner.
Please don't take this as a hostile message in any way but I can't help but
feel your needs don't really align with the intent of this mailing list.
These are not in any way fedora problems.
Given your messages are primarily about packaging the fedora development
list may appear more appropriate, but before you do might I suggest you
take a breather to get some coffee and take a breath of fresh air?
In this specific instance you have made a typo, as simple as that.
To your specific question you really shouldn't be referring to %{_topdir}
ever and I can't help but think your current methodology is suspect
You should probably go revisit some basic rpm guides such as:
https://www.hogarthuk.com/?q=node/11
Follow the minimal templates to learn a little better.
Then if you have trouble include the full spec file when describing the
problem and not just the snippet you think is the issue.

volumeicon error
by Ranjan Maitra
Hi,
On a fully updated F25 system, I get the following error upon boot:
$ volumeicon
ALSA lib pulse.c:243:(pulse_connect) PulseAudio: Unable to connect: Connection refused
volumeicon: alsa_backend.c:86: asound_get_volume: Assertion `m_elem != NULL' failed.
Aborted (core dumped)
The problem persists for an undetermined amount of time after which it goes away (i.e. volumeicon works as advertised with no error messages and with the icon showing up on my system tray). The problem appears to me that I can not determine the amount of time. Sometimes it is 8 minutes, sometimes not even 30 minutes does it, and another time it was 15 minutes.
Any suggestions as to what the error is, and/or how I can track/fix the error.
Best wishes.
Ranjan

Asterisk and dahdi-tools with fedora25
by Alex
Hi,
I've just upgraded a server we use for asterisk to fedora25 and
noticed asterisk-dahdi doesn't install and the dahdi-tools package is
missing.
There also seems to be an existing bug report for this, dating back
all the way to October.
https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=1384718
I think I also saw a reference about it being deprecated? Perhaps it's
been replaced by something else?
Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
Alex

Build .rpm for X64_64 only
by arnaud gaboury
I wrote a spec file to build a .rpm for an application working only on 64
bits machines. The package builds fine and is in this form:
myapp-version.fc25.x86_64.rpm
Now, $ fedpkg --dist f25 lint complains:
E: no-binary
Googling I found the package should be of the noarch architecture. Adding
BuildArch: noarch right below Source in my .spec file leaves me with:
myapp-version.fc25.noarch.rpm and fedpkg lint doesn't complain anymore.
My question: is this the correct way to build my .rpm, using the noarch in
the spec file? Or shall I keep myapp-version.fc25.x86_64.rpm and ignore the
ling Error?
Thank you for help

unexpected dual monitor behavior
by Paolo Galtieri
I have a laptop to which I have attached an external monitor via hdmi.
I have the system configured such that the external monitor is a clone
of the laptop display. This works fine once I login, however, when I
boot the system and have the initial user login the external monitor is
not a clone of the laptop display. If I move the mouse off the right
side of the laptop display it shows up on the external monitor as does
the login dialog. The laptop display just displays the background
image. If I move the mouse off the left side of the external monitor it
shows up on the laptop display as does the login dialog.
Is this the expected behavior?
I expected the display cloning to apply at boot time as well.
