by Jon LaBadie
Planning on taking my F22 desktop to F24 soon.
Just want to confirm that trying to skip a

libtroffice-x11
by Joachim Backes
Hi all,
can anybody explain the purpose of libreoffice-x11?
My libreoffice runs properly without libreoffice-x11.
rpm -qi gives no usable information.
Kind regards

Evolution and filtered mail
by Mark
Since I've updated from F23 to F24 I've noticed that filters don't work
reliably any more in Evolution. I got two mail accounts defined, one
pop and one imap and around 30 filters all together. Now incoming mail
that I receive on the imap account gets filter sometimes and placed in
proper folder and sometimes not, i.e. they remain in the inbox.
I am the only one to notice this?

Migrated to F24
by Robert Moskowitz
I have switched over to the new system with F24. With a couple open items.
I am getting SELinux errors, related to the desktop environment mess up
at login time. Of course my practice is that occurs maybe once a
month. I will wait to see how work goes on the reported bugs.
It may have been related to the desktop problems or just the way things
are organized, but system-config-printer was not installed and it took
me a bit to realize what I was missing to get my printer set up. But
that is done.
QEMU is working as needed after a bit of messing around to get the right
rpms installed.
Lots of odds and ends to sort out, but at least current for the next
year. Maybe for next year I will look at something up from my Lenovo
x120e (same size, kybd pointer, price, but better).

F24 problems migrating a qemu image
by Robert Moskowitz
I did this a year ago...
I believe I have installed all I need of qemu. I have started the
manager, it connected to libvirtd (after I figured out what I had not
installed).
I moved my F21 image over from the old system and followed the add from
existing image. I got the error:
Unable to complete install: 'Failed to connect socket to
/var/run/libvirt/virtlogd-sock': No such file or directory'
So is there something I need still to install?
Is there some service beyond libvirtd to start?
Is it better to reboot than figure out what needs to be started?
thanks

Security vulnerability in TCP of linux, patches available, how soon
in Fedora?
by Rick Walker
> 1. Open /etc/sysctl.conf, append a command

I'm very skeptical. The default on my stock machine is 100. You can check
your own with:
sysctl -A | grep tcp | grep limit
In the absence of better documentation, I'm guessing that opening the
ack limit to several million is essentially setting your machine up to
unlimited hack attack.

Samba server set-up -
by Bob Goodwin
I've been trying for two days to get a samba server working. I think I
have the configuration correct in comparing it with what I did before
which had been working. This is a new Fedora 24 installation, updated.
I can/t mount the server from this computer, it had been working without
a hitch into the same server address.
/etc/fstab is:
//192.168.1.48/smbBOX48 /mnt/box48/ cifs
defaults,password=mysmbpwd 0 0
The mount fails thus:
[root@Box10 bobg]# mount //192.168.1.48/smbBOX48 /mnt/box48/
Password for bobg(a)//192.168.1.48/smbBOX48: ********
mount error(13): Permission denied
Refer to the mount.cifs(8) manual page (e.g. man mount.cifs)
I guess I don't understand "man mount.cifs" because I don't see what
needs to be fixed, not sure if it's the client or the server, although
the client has not changed.
Any help will be appreciated.
Bob
