Weird window behavior
by Rick Stevens
Ok, my turn to ask a question--and it's a weird one.
Since I've upgraded to F24, (Xfce4, xwfm4), I've noticed some odd
behavior in some windows. Example: When playing AisleRiot solitaire, on
occasion after moving a card the display flickers back and forth
between the move I just did and the previous view of the board. If I
click in another window, the flickering stops and the move sticks.
Another example: If I edit a file and change something in vi in an
Xterm...the display flickers between what I just edited and what it
looked like before the change. Again, clicking in another window makes
it stop.
It doesn't happen all the time, but happens on occasion. In vi sessions
or remote consoles via ssh, this is really, REALLY disconcerting. Just
wondering if anyone else has seen this. I've got it happening on two
different machines (both have Intel graphics if that means anything).
Note that my laptop (also Xfce4, xfwm4 and Intel graphics) does NOT do
this.
Any ideas? Not even sure how to phrase the question to google it.

Edge Scrolling Gone After Update...
by EGO-II.1
Hello all,
It's been a while since I've had to come here and inquire about the
Fedora OS, but I'll keep this short and to the point.
Hardware: Lenovo ThinkPad T-420 - i5 - 8GB RAM - 320GB HDD
I was running F23....until the Gnome Software app told me that there was
an update for F24......which I spent just about all night waiting to
finish. Everything went well (I assume?) because it rebooted after the
update and everything LOOKED ok.....until I fired up Firefox and could
not single-finger / edge scroll down the page. This wasn't the part that
"hurt"....it was when I went to "Settings" and then "Mouse & Touchpad"
and discovered THERE'S NO OPTION TO ENABLE THOSE SETTINGS! So my
question is simple:
What must I do to have those features return? Is there a script?...a
download?...some ".conf" file I need to manipulate to get this to work
again? I appreciate any and ALL help offered for this problem!!
Here's the output of lspci:

SATA AHCI RAID Hot Swapping
by Philip Rhoades
People,
I have this motherboard:
http://www.asus.com/au/Motherboards/Z97AUSB_31
I boot Fedora 24 x86_64 from a single SATA Linux drive in one of four
hot-swap bays but I occasionally want to look at old backup drives
without shutting down the computer, inserting or extracting the drive
and starting up the computer again. It appears I should enable the AHCI
option for RAID functionality (even if I only have a single boot drive
installed) and then that will allow hot swapping. My concern is the
warning message I get about turning on AHCI when I start to make the
change in BIOS - about the possibility of destroying my boot disk! -
does anyone know about this stuff?
dmesg | grep ahci
gives this:
[ 0.343128] ahci 0000:00:1f.2: version 3.0
[ 0.343211] ahci 0000:00:1f.2: AHCI 0001.0300 32 slots 6 ports 6 Gbps
0x1 impl SATA mode
[ 0.343228] ahci 0000:00:1f.2: flags: 64bit ncq led clo pio slum part
ems apst
[ 0.343606] scsi host0: ahci
[ 0.343703] scsi host1: ahci
[ 0.344391] scsi host2: ahci
[ 0.345073] scsi host3: ahci
[ 0.345752] scsi host4: ahci
[ 0.346433] scsi host5: ahci
so the drivers are already being loaded without the BIOS being
configured for AHCI? From a lot of Googling, it appears that most
people are turning on AHCI for a RAID setup - but that doesn't apply to
me . .
Thanks,
Phil.

Fedora 24 and PNY SSD Problems
by Gregory P. Ennis
Everyone,
I am trying to reclaim some use out of a couple old Compaq Presaio
SR1720NX machines for the office by adding some memory and a PNY 240 GB
CS1311 SSD drives. The bios was made by Phoenix; I did not identify a
version number of the bios. I did not plan on keep the hard drive
installed and planned on just using the SSD. These machines were IDE
machines and only had two SATA ports on the motherboard.
When I install the SSD the bios recognizes the Pny SSD properly, and I
was able to set up the boot order without difficulty.
When I tried to install Fedora 24 on the first machine the installation
software did not identify the presences of the SSD. I also tried a
Centso 7.2 install disc and the SSD was not recognized with it as well.
Just to make sure things were working, I added the hard drive back to
the machine, and the Fedora install routines did recognize the hard
drive but continued to fail to recognize the SSD.
Are there preparatory things that I need to do with the SSD drives that
I am missing? Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks,
Greg Ennis

Re: application to listen to on-line broadcasts? [SOLVED]
by William Mattison
Good morning,
I'm now thinking that for the long term, I'm probably better off waiting
for chromium to become available in Fedora. A concern is that wikipedia
implies that code for flash-like functionality is not included in
chromium. So for the short term, I'm back to flash.
I am almost certain that 2-3 years ago, I installed flash from the adobe
web site. But it never worked. A short while ago, I tried "dnf info
flash" to see if I have it, and if so, what version. I must be
mis-understanding the dnf man page. I got this:
bash.2[~]: dnf info flash
Fedora 23 - x86_64 3.5 MB/s | 43 MB
00:12
RPM Fusion for Fedora 23 - Free 511 kB/s | 457 kB
00:00
RPM Fusion for Fedora 23 - Nonfree - Updates 207 kB/s | 54 kB
00:00
RPM Fusion for Fedora 23 - Free - Updates 350 kB/s | 160 kB
00:00
RPM Fusion for Fedora 23 - Nonfree 336 kB/s | 156 kB
00:00
Fedora 23 - x86_64 - Updates 7.6 MB/s | 24 MB
00:03
Last metadata expiration check: 0:00:07 ago on Wed Jul 27 09:31:01 2016.
Error: No matching Packages to list
bash.3[~]:
First, how do I determine whether or not I already have flash, and if
so, which version?
Second, If I don't already have flash, what's the best way to get the
right flash? And then what do I need to do so Firefox launches it when,
for example, I want to see a flash video in the yahoo finance web site?
(and then there's those National Weather Service RADAR loops!)
Third, what did "dnf info flash" actually do? Do I now have a bunch of
files that I should delete? If yes, where are they?
Thank-you for your help.
Bill.
(p.s. This is one of those rare cases where I wish I could change the
title or topic of this thread!)

Shotwell rotated a video
by Matt Morgan
I'm on F22. I recently used Shotwell to bring a bunch of photos and videos
in from my Android phone.
I shot one of the videos in portrait mode. Shotwell brought it in rotated
90 degrees, and wouldn't rotate it back--the "Rotate" option seems to be
available only for still images, not videos. I can find discussion online
regarding this fact--that Shotwell doesn't offer manual video rotation--but
nothing about the initial rotation upon import.
I was able to use mencoder to rotate it back, but with some loss of quality
it seems.
How do I get Shotwell not to do this--any ideas?
Thanks,
Matt
