Installing F23 WS on Dell Inspiron 17 (5758)
by CLOSE Dave
Using the F23 workstation net install ISO, installation is nearly
impossible because the touchpad is not working and the selected buttons
are not clearly indicated. The touchpad works in the BIOS.
I'd be happy to solve this issue after installation if I could get that
done. But using TAB etc to navigate is difficult since the selected
buttons are not marked clearly. Even that would be ok if I could
properly anticipate button sequence and just count TABs, but the
sequence seems erratic. I usually hit the wrong buttons.
There must be some boot option switch to correct this issue. Is there?

VMM copy -
by Bob Goodwin
I have a computer with Fedora 23
installed on an 80GB drive. The same
computer has a1 TB drive with Fedora 21
on it and rarely gets booted. I would
like to put F23 on the larger drive but
would like to preserve the contents of
Virtual Machine Manager and move it to
the new installation.
VMM installs the VM in / and I have had
problems on both computers where I have
run out of space, both just happen to
have F23 on smaller drives, 250G and
80G. I just went through considerable
effort creating more space in root on
the 80GB drive in order to restore
normal operation after setting up a
centos7 VM ...
What do I need to save to do that?

How to disable IPv6 configuration properly?
by Peter Boy
Hi all,
for some reason I’ve to temporarily deactivate IPv6 interface configuration on a F22 server box.
According to documentation (or at least as I understood) it could be done either by adding
IPV6INIT=no
IPV6_AUTOCONF=no
to /etc/sysconfig/network-scripts/ifcfg-eth0
or
NETWORKING_IPV6=no
IPV6_AUTOCONF=no
to /etc/sysconfig/network
I tried both, executed "nmcli c reload", "systemctl restart NetworkManager", even rebooted the system.
No change in network configuration. In ifconfig I have a local link address as well as a global address as advertised by the router and autoconfig based on mac address.
All those options are documented in usr/share/doc/initscripts/sysconfig.txt, so I guess these are still valid options.
Now I’m wondering what I may have overlooked or missed?
Any hint appreciated.

gnome, maybe fedora, or maybe nvidia problem
by Steve Berg
Have an issue that I've been living with for awhile now, more annoyance but I'd like to find a fix for it.
I have an up to date Fedora 23 install, the system has an nvidia quadro K420 card and I'm (at the moment) running the NVIDIA-Linux-x86_64-361.28.run drivers locally compiled. I have a dual head setup and it works great with two exceptions.
1. If the screen goes blank due to inactivity when I wake it up the dual head is borked up. Either one monitor is left asleep or the monitors mirror each other instead of a spanned desktop. I have to run the nvidia-settings utility, reset the configuration and then all is well until the next time the screen goes into it's blank/sleep mode. I can't disable all the power save stuff to keep the screen from going blank and/or locking the desktop.
2. If I switch over to another computer plugged into the same KVM (linkskey) and then switch back usually the right monitor blinks and the spanned desktop then comes back but all my open applications have relocated to the left monitor. they had been spread out across the desktop.
I've tried the kmod/akmod drivers in the past and saw similar behavior. For me at least getting the drivers from nvidia and running their installer has always seemed to be more stable even with this annoying behavior.
Anyone know of what I might do to get rid of this annoyance?

mediatomb database problem
by François Patte
Bonjour,
I recently installed mediatomb and I am facing a problem with the
updates of the database: it seems that when you change something in the
metadata of a file, the scan of the shared directories is unable to take
into account the modifications.
For instance: I modify the "album" metadata of one file, as far as I
understand, this file should be removed from the album it belonged to,
and a new album should be created in which this file will appear.
Nothing like this happens.... The only way to get this behaviour, is to
remove the database and to recreate it from scratch!
In the config of MT, I ticked the "full rescan" button which is supposed
to indicate to sqlite to rescan all the metadata...
Moreover, when sqlite rescans the shared directories (recursive scan is
ticked) it seems to choose randomly the subdirectories and does not
rescan all these subdirectories.
Thank you for helping.

Openvpn Configuration/Access Issue
by Stephen Morris
Hi,
I am trying to my vpn service provider using instructions they
provide for Ubuntu Mint as the only information they provide for Linux.
When I go into Networkmanager and create a new Openvpn connection and
try to connect to it, I get a popup saying the connection failed and one
of the messages seems to be indicating that I am missing a plugin.
As far as I can see I have every Networkmanager vpn plugin
installed, so I am at a loss trying to understand the message. Is
anybody able to shed any light on what/where I need to look to try to
identify what the connection issues are?
regards,
Steve
