Installing F25
by Martin S
Now I've tried two disks from the Fedora site.
Both the "proper" Fedora Workstation, and the Fedora Cinnamon spin. I
get the same result with both - they go through the installation
routine, ending with a statement that the installation is finished and I
can start use the system. Upon reboot, removing the DVD I get a "No
operating system" error.
Very weird. This is on a HP 2570p Elitebook.
If instead I install Linux Mint 18.1 (Beta) I have no problems at all
after installation.
Any ideas? Maybe I should just stay on Mint ...

dnf fails to properly install httpd and progresql
by Emmett Culley
I just did a fresh install of fedora 25 via the KDE live image. After booting I installed apache (httpd) and postgreSQL via yumex-dnf. Neither will start. Apache because no apache user or group were created, and for postgreSQL not postgresql.service file was created. No porgres user or group was installed. Plus there is no postgresql-setup file so I can initialize the database.
I tried reinstalling apache, then removing then installing apache, none of which made a difference. Did the same with postgreSQL, same thing.
What am I missing?

Fedora25: SDDM not showing NIS accounts
by Terry Barnaby
In F25 the SDDM no longer shows a list of users when NIS (ypbind) is
enabled and also it does not default to the last user logged in. kdm
appears to be the same (with UserList=true in /etc/kde/kdm/kdmrc).
Note this is on a KDE spin install, but I assume the SDDM would be the
same as for a Gnome install.
Although being able to hide the email list and enter a user name is good
generally for a server based system with many users, it would be good to
have this as an option for smaller networks.
Is this a bug or a new feature ?

XFCE - mounting/renaming flash drives from CLI
by Max Pyziur
Greetings,
In Xfce, can flash drives be mounted from the command line w/o superuser
privileges?
So far, I've only mounted them from the Desktop or file manager.
Also, can they be (re)named from the command line?
Much thanks,

to be found in an external library libcerf.
I installed libcerf-1.3] from the tar file, but gnuplot does not find it.
Should I build a rpm package fomr libcerf ?
Should I reinstall or rebuild the gnuplot package ?
Thank.

Install Woes with F25
by Tim Evans
I've had multiple failed installs on a brand new Dell XPS 8900 today.
During the boot from bootable thumb drive, several hundred messages of
the following ilk showed up:
[nn] printk messages dropped [timestamp] pcieport 0000:00:1c.0 PCIebus
Error: severity: corrected, type=physical layer, id.00e0 (Receiver ID)
Finally, after a couple of minutes of these messages, the installer came up.
I reached the 'create-a-user' stage (language, keyboard, filesystems,
root password had been filled in.) The install stalled on the
create-user screen after I entered just one letter of the user's name in
the box. That is, the screen would not take any other input. Mouse
cursor was still active and I could access other features of the live
environment--e.g., open a terminal.
After 20 minutes or so, a pop-up message stating the Anaconda installer
was not responding, wait/exit. Probably shouldn't have, but I clicked
exit, then tried to restart the install-to-disk process. This generated
a message about an existing anaconda.pid file.
So, I rebooted it to try again. Now the above-referenced messages (or
ones very similar to them) display indefinitely (I waited over half an
hour). The installer never starts. (I tried both F25 and F24 install
media, with the same results.)
My WAG is that the filesystem creations had not completed by the time
the Anaconda-is-not-responding pop-up appeared. (Disk is 1TB, and I
told it to delete with Windows partitions.) Possibly, exiting instead of
waiting left one or more filesystems in some unusable (read-only?) state.
This tends to be confirmed by attempting to boot from Windows 10 DVD,
which reports it can't find required partitions to "reset the PC."
Can someone provide recipe for booting F25 single user and doing
something to restore sanity to the filesystems, or just clean up the
mess so I can try the install again? At this point, with neither a
working Fedora nor any Windows, the system is without an OS.
Thanks.
