multi-hop scp questions
by ProPAAS DBA
All;
I want to copy files from server C to my laptop, I have access to server
C via:
laptop --> ssh to server B (the jumpbox)
then
server B --> ssh to server C
I added an ssh config like this (.ssh/config in my home dir on my laptop):
Host serverB
HostName jumpbox.clientA.aws.com
Host serverC
ProxyCommand ssh -q serverB nc -q0 serverC -db 22
However when I tried this from my laptop:
ssh myuser@serverC
I get prompted for my user on serverB, enter the pw but it never accepts it:
$ ssh myuser@serverC
jsmith(a)jumpbox.clientA.aws.com's password:
jsmith(a)jumpbox.clientA.aws.com's password:
jsmith(a)jumpbox.clientA.aws.com's password:
I notice that I'm trying to login as the jump box user (myuser) but i'm
prompted for the laptop user I'm logged in as (jsmith).
Can anyone help me get multi-hop ssh/scp working even when the user I
want to connect as is not the same as my laptop user? Also do I need to
setup ssh keys to make this work? I'd prefer not to do this...
Thanks in advance

dnf going crazy?
by Tom Horsley
Dnf wants to install bash-completion on my system.
(A package I remove before I even boot because it
is the world's most useless pile of trash).
I let it install it to make it happy, then
go ahead and remove it to see what dependency
dragged it in.
When I remove it, dnf doesn't try to remove
any other packages, so apparently nothing
depends on it.
Why on earth does it want to install it then?

Fedora 25 - Terminal - Utilities - Why is it hidden away?
by Dan Irwin
Hi all,
Playing with Fedora 25. I'm shocked to see the terminal is still hidden
away in the utilities group.
I'm pretty sure near 100% of users add Terminal to the favorites
immediately after install.
Surely the #1 use case of Fedora on the desktop IS the terminal?
Cheers,
D

TERM variable and change since fedora25
by Alex
Hi,
Since upgrading my desktop to fedora25, my terminal type while using
GNU screen has changed to screen.xterm-256color. This is apparently
unknown to previous versions of fedora. When connecting to a
fedora22/23/24 system remotely using ssh, it reports the following
when trying to use less, or edit a file with vi:
E437: terminal capability "cm" required
How do I either add the new terminal type to the remote system, or
change my terminal type locally so it corresponds with one that's
available on the remote system?
# echo $TERM
screen.xterm-256color
Thanks,
Alex

I've never used that extension but would the reading view accomplish the same thing?

What is wrong with the dependencies? What can I do to fix it?

The Only Real Solution to the Missing Folder Pane Problem in
Thunderbird for Linux
by Turritopsis Dohrnii Teo
Dear Thunderbird for Linux Users,
Please apply the following recommended solution. This is the only real
solution to the missing folder pane in Thunderbird for Linux. All the
other solutions do not work.
In /home/<user>,
$ nano delete-all-msf.sh
Type in the following 2 lines:
#!/bin/sh
find . -type f -name *.msf -exec rm -f {} \;
Save the file.
$ su -
# chmod +x delete-all-msf.sh
# exit
$ cd
$ ./delete-all-msf.sh
Start Thunderbird for Linux.
The above solution is to delete all the corrupted mail summary files
and let Thunderbird for Linux rebuild the *.msf files.
Thank you very much.
Yours sincerely,

F25 Wayland & environment variables
by Gregory P. Ennis
Everyone,
I started having difficulty with some environment variables that were
stored with the use of /etc/profile with X11.
When using Wayland these environment variables do not get stored at the
time of login. Works fine when I change the gui to X11.
Is there a different place environment variables are stored with
Wayland?
