Kernel update
by jarmo
How come I can save my kernel 4.2.8-300 not to be cleaned. It's now
last properly working kernel for me. Dnf update brings every now and
then new kernel and cleans older ones. I'd like to save this working,
so far, when I find new ones working. I know to set in dnf.conf
installonly_limit=# higher, so helps while, but for setting it 10 is
not wise :). Where is set that "rescue" kernel? Dnf does not clean that.
Any help?

texlive
by Beartooth
I'm doing dnf upgrade on F23. Like many other times, it's
updating some humongous number of items involving texlive; It must be a
huge program.
Afaik, I have never used texlive at all. Unless some other app
calls it, I seem to be wasting a lot of space -- and maybe exposing my
machine to a lot of hazards that I'm not competent even to study.
Is there some reason I don't see to keep this enormous app, or
would I be better off just telling dnf to remove it??

Screen freezes on Fedora 23, new system
by John Maheu
I am getting random screen freezes in which the mouse still moves around
but the mouse button and keyboard do not work. If youtube is playing the
music continues on. Before a freeze everything works fine. It may work for
1 minute or 1 hour after a reboot and a freeze does not seem to depend on
what desktop application I am running.
When this happens I always see the following in the log files.
kernel: DMAR: DRHD: handling fault status reg 2
Jan 24 16:41:19 kernel: DMAR: INTR-REMAP: Request device [[00:00.1] fault

I can ssh in. I need to reboot to get things working again.
Any idea what this means and how to fix it?
The system is new:
Dell Precision Tower 7910
Dual Intel Xeon E5-2687W v3
64GB (8x8GB)
1TB SATA 7.2k
AMD FirePro W4100 2GB (4 mDP)
LSI SAS 3008
I'm using the standard X driver which is listed as RADEON
and under system details: Gallium 0.4 on AMD Cape Verde.
Thanks

ssh jail?
by Jeffrey Ross
I'm in the process of setting up an SSH jail, for the most part its
working as expected with one exception, I want to provide access to
/dev/ttyUSB0 through /dev/ttyUSB4 (not 2) via cu.
When I attempt to use "cu -lttyUSB0 -s9600" I always get "line in use"
even through it is not in use and from another account not restricted to
the "jail" I can successfully connect to the ttyUSB0.
I've tried creating $chroot/
run/
lock/
lockdev/
uucp/
var/
run -> symbolic link to $chroot/run
lock -> symbolic link to $chroot/run/lock
and then matched the directory permissions so they are the same as the
"real" system.
ls -l $chroot/dev/ttyUSB?
crwxrwxrwx 1 root dialout 188, 0 Jan 24 14:48 ttyUSB0
crwxrwxrwx 1 root dialout 188, 1 Jan 24 14:49 ttyUSB1
crwxrwxrwx 1 root dialout 188, 3 Jan 24 14:49 ttyUSB3
crwxrwxrwx 1 root dialout 188, 4 Jan 24 14:49 ttyUSB4
The dialout group is 18 and the user is in group 18, initially I set the
permissions for the ttyUSB? to 660 before changing it to 777 as a last
ditch effort.
The "real" /dev/ttyUSB? -
ls -l /dev/ttyUSB?
crw-rw---- 1 root dialout 188, 0 Jan 24 14:44 /dev/ttyUSB0
crw-rw---- 1 root dialout 188, 1 Jan 23 21:48 /dev/ttyUSB1
crw-rw---- 1 root dialout 188, 3 Jan 24 15:12 /dev/ttyUSB3
crw-rw---- 1 root dialout 188, 4 Jan 23 21:48 /dev/ttyUSB4
I'm probably missing something simple and any suggestions would be
appreciated.
Thanks, Jeff

Audio CD burner question
by JD
Tried a few audio cd burners, but none of them seem to have
an option to automagically include each track title as CD text for each
track.
If anyone knows of such a burner (Open Source), would like to hear about it.
Thanx.

Kmail
by Richard Ibbotson
Hi
I suppose I could ask this question on the KDE list but their Mailman
software is doing some strange things just now. Since I upgraded to
Fedora 23 I find that I get a message in Kmail when I try to delete
some mail
“Do you really want to delete the selected message ? “
I have to click on this hundreds of times to delete any unwanted mail.
Can anyone suggest which setting to change to get rid of this ? KDE
4.14.14 Kmail 4.14.10. No. I do_not want to know about any other mail
app. Just some help with this one.

F23 and Ctrl D
by Stephen Davies
I have just updated my Compaq 610 from F22 to F23 (using dnf) and find that I
can no longer use Ctrl D to exit a session nor Ctrl C to stop a process.
Instead of the traditional response, I just get the keystrokes echoed in the
terminal window.
How can I restore the traditional responses?
