Miracast support still broken in Fedora? or is there hope?

The NetworkManager devs must have had then 11 months from this message
to implement what was needed for Miraclecast to work.
*Now, on CES2016 Dell has announced its monitors with MiracleCast

[Fedora] - No GUI after install bumblebee on Fedora 23
by Earl Ramirez
Dear All,
I have a ASUS laptop with NVIDIA Optimus technology, therefore, I used the
Fedora documentation [0] to install bumbleeble using the third party
managed driver to install NVIDIA. After the installation I am no longer
seeing the NVIDIA when I use 'lspci | grep VGA'; however, when I use 'lspci
| egrep 'VGA|3D'' I can see the NVIDIA video card.
$ lspci | grep VGA
00:02.0 VGA compatible controller: Intel Corporation Device 191b (rev 06)
$ lspci | egrep 'VGA|3D'
00:02.0 VGA compatible controller: Intel Corporation Device 191b (rev 06)
01:00.0 3D controller: NVIDIA Corporation GM107M [GeForce GTX 960M] (rev a2)
Also I no longer see the vgaswitcheroo under /sys/kernel/debug/. When I try
to boot with the kernel that NVIDIA was build on; the laptop locks up just
before the GUI and you will hear the fans blowing and the only way around
it is to power the laptop down. I have tried booting into that kernel with
different kernel parameters; E.g. nomodeset rd.driver.blacklist=nouveau and
even i915.preliminary_hw_support=1 and all options and combinations fails.
However when I boot from the kernel that NVIDIA was not compiled on I can
the the get a display that says "oops something went wrong, please try
again" and there is an option to log out, I can also switch to another
virtual console and have full access to the OS. I get the same behaviour
even if I use nomodeset; however, if I use i915.preliminary_hw_support=1 I
get the appropriate resolution.
Can anyone shed some light on how to get the GUI, with bumblebee or even
the Intel graphic drivers?
The packages that were installed are:
$ rpm -qa | egrep 'bumblebee|bbswitch|primus|VirtualGL'

Is rfkill new?
by Tom Horsley
I've just been getting switched over to fedora 23 from 22, and
spent a long time figuring out why the heck my wifi dongle
as access point didn't work any longer.
I finally found log messages about the interface being soft
blocked by rfkill, which then led me down another rabbit hole
to figure out what the heck rfkill and soft blocking was about.
Is rfkill completely new in fedora 23, or has it been around
for a while, but the default recently changed to blocked rather
than unblocked?
(I do have things working now by adding unblock code to my
script that starts the access point).

ssh-add broken?
by Tom Horsley
My RSA private key stashed in a file that says
SSH PRIVATE KEY FILE FORMAT 1.1 has functioned
forever.
In fedora23, however the ssh-add command does this:
tomh> ssh-add /home/tweety/.ssh/identity
Enter passphrase for /home/tweety/.ssh/identity:
Bad passphrase, try again for /home/tweety/.ssh/identity:
(I couldn't possibly have typo'ed the passphrase
as many times as I've tried :-).
If I use the identical private key file in
fedora22, ssh-add works fine.
Is there is bug in some crypto library or something?

Looking for a printer
by thomas cameron
-----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE-----
Hash: SHA1
Howdy, all -
I have an Epson Workforce 600 printer, and it's actually a great
printer except for one thing: it goes through ink cartridges like an
out of control tweaker in a room full of meth.
I need a printer with the following features, and I'd love any
advice/experience you have had:
1) networked, works with Linux (the kids and me) and Windows (wife)
2) color
3) fast print speed (not as high a priority, but nice)
4) prefer laser printer, as opposed laser jet
I had an HP LaserJet 4, and it was awesome, but it was not color and
it finally died. I'm looking for that sort of experience, just newer.
Any suggestions?
Thomas

print chain is broken
by Geoffrey Leach
Fedora 23. Everything is up-to-date.
I discovered today that printing that involves PDF of HTML does not work, by which I mean that the job sits in the queue with 'processing' as status.
echo 'foo' > lpr works fine, as does printing the problem pdf from a system running Fedora 19.
The printer is USB-connected. Deleting and re-installing does not change the problem, nor does re-booting.
Driver: HP LaserJet 1300 Series Postscript (recommended)
/etc/modprobe.d/blacklist-uss720.conf exists with content: blacklist uss720
I'd like to sort this out, but I have no clue where to start. Suggestions appreciated.
thanks.

installation instructions for NUT on Fedora 19 - that works
by Gary Stainburn
Hi folks,
I'm trying to get NUT installed on an existing F19 server which sits beside my
shiney new APC SmartUPS. It's connected using a serial cable on ttyS0.
I've found a number of web sites that tell you how to install NUT and get it
working, including one that said it worked where others didn;'t - it referred
to permissions issues with the RPMs.
However, none of the instructions relate to F19 and even after making
allowances I still can't get it to work.
One thing that was missing was /var/run/ups which was the last thing I
created. However, as you can see below, it still doesn't work.
I'm hoping eventually to have this server monitor the UPS, and then have all
other servers monitor through this server.
Can anyone help with getting this working. Ta
Gary

F23 installer does not allow to reuse / partition
by Javier Perez
Hi
I already read that the Anaconda installer does not allow me to reuse the /
partition to install Fedora 23. I understand the reasons.
I am trying to install Fedora 23 on a USB that will be permanently attached
to a BeeBox system while the drive arrives on the mail. Problem is that for
some rason, whomever has to format the usb drive crashes. Solution: Make
partitioning and formating outside. But now, Anconda does not allow me to
use the freshly made / partition to install the system, it wants to do it
on its own and it crashes everytime it tries.
Is there a solution to this catch 22?

How to change id and group to the user
by Walter Cazzola
Dear Experts,
as you probably know (from another thread) I've just installed Fedora 23 on
my dell m6800 and I have a new problem.
I have let the installer create my user and it has given it uid 1000 and
gid 1000. This is the standard behavior and I'm used to change it by
manually edit /etc/group and /etc/passwd but this time this behavior has
broken my user. I can't enter at the kde login (before in the splash screen
it was asking for the password of my user than asking for a password but no
user was specified and I got a login erro when I use my passowrd).
Also removing the user with userdel and readd it with useradd didn't solve
the issue. The only fix I found was to reinstall the whole system. But now
I still have the need to change the user uid and its group number. Which is
the correct way?
Thank you again for the help and Merry Christmas
Walter
