rpm spec file %define
by Joseph L. Casale
I have a spec with two source files where I do not create the second, it's not mine:
Source0: %{name}-%{version}.tar.gz
Source1: foo-bar.tar.xz
My prep sections looks like:
%setup -q
%setup -q -T -D -a 1
The tar.xz for Source1 has an unversioned name however it unpacks to a
versioned directory so I am trying to do something like:
%define foo-bar_dir %(ls -d %{_builddir}/%{name}-%{version}/foo-bar-*-baz |grep -o '[^/]*$')
so I can leverage %{foo-bar_dir} in the %files section. How does one properly
accomplish this so that the define is invoked after the unpack so it actually works?
When I build now it's done immediately and produces an empty variable?
Thanks,
jlc

f23+Gnome3.18: how to disable touchpad while typing
by Dario Lesca
How to enable "Disable touchpad while typing option" in Fedora 23 +
Gnome3.18.x ?
When X start, some procedure (I do not know what and is not something
into .config/autostart/*) launch the syndaemon with this option:
syndaemon -i 1.0 -t -K -R
But I do not want the '-t' and -i options, I want run it with only -K
and -R
If i kill it and run
syndaemon -d -K -R
everything works as I want
It's possible do that from a control panel, like all D.E. =! Gnome3 do?
Many thanks

XFCE power manager no longer turns off the monitor
by Sam Varshavchik
At some point recently, my monitor stopped getting turned off after the
prescribed period of inactivity. I'm using the XFCE power manager, and its
settings remain untouched.
Manually executing "xset dpms force off" turns the monitor off normally.
"xset q" shows that everything appears to be in order:
DPMS (Energy Star):
Standby: 300 Suspend: 360 Off: 420
DPMS is Enabled
Monitor is On
So, what else can I check?

Fedora 23 on Asus UX305C / UX305CA ultrabook
by D. Hugh Redelmeier
The UX305 is an ultrabook that can run Linux (google for discussion).
So I bought a couple when the Canadian Microsoft Store had a great
Boxing Day sale.
(Boxing Day in Canada and the rest of the Commonwealth is a sale day
like the US Black Friday. It is the day after Christmas.)
It turns out that the UX305C (or UX305CA -- both names are used to
describe this notebook) has a newer processor (Skylake) than the other
writeups have covered. This newer processor and support chip cause
some problems.
I was able to install Fedora 23 on it, but there were several issues.
All serious problems went away when I installed the Rawhide kernel
after installing Fedora 23.
While installing, the trackpad won't work. So you should use an
external mouse for the installation procedure.
I found that my USB / ethernet dongle would not work during
installation. Wireless did work.
After installation and applying all updates, I followed this to
install the Rawhide kernel:
<https://fedoraproject.org/wiki/RawhideKernelNodebug>
You need to turn off Secure Boot to boot the Rawhide kernel.
Here are relevant bugzilla entries:
<https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=1281990>
<https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=1292615>
Even after this fix, the airplane mode light (in the keycap) is on but
I'm not in airplane mode. I haven't tried other Fn-* key
combinations: I assume that they are not working. I haven't tried to
fix them.
Others have gotten Arch Linux, debian, and Ubuntu working on the
UX305C. All due to the work described in bz 1281990.

F23 nouveau HDMI Limitation?
by Ed Greshko
I just upgraded from F22 to F23. Previously I'd been using the nVidia drivers via
rpmfusion but they weren't working so I decided to move back to nouveau.
I have identical monitors one connected via DVI-D cable and the other via HDMI. In F22
with nVidia they both worked well with native 2560x1440 resolution. After switching to
nouveau in F23 the max resolution is 1920x1080. 2560x1440 isn't even shown in the output
of xrandr.
I switch from HDMI to DisplayPort and am getting 2560x1440 so things are OK. Just
wondering if this is bug or limitation.

In reality, some people should stick to running Windows and others should stay away from
computers altogether.
